In-depth investigation underway into Cafe blast: Karnataka Home Minister

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday said the police are conducting in-depth investigation into the bomb blast at the Rameshwaram Cafe and are looking into all angles. He said investigators have gathered certain information from CCTV footage, adding that the footage from the city's public transport buses is also being analysed as part of the probe to nab the culprit. A meeting of senior Home Department officials with the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been convened this afternoon. Delhi Police beefs up security after low-intensity blast in Bengaluru cafe

The Delhi Police has stepped up security after a low-intensity blast at a popular Bengaluru entry left 10 people injured, an official said on Saturday. Districts police chiefs have been directed to increase vigil in crowded areas, especially in Delhi's markets, the official said. A senior police officer said market associations have been asked to remain alert and approach their local police stations in case they find any suspicious activity. The associations have also been directed to ensure that CCTV cameras installed on the premises are functional, he said. Another officer said the Delhi Police has asked its bomb disposal squads and bomb detection teams to stay on alert. The estranged husband of Suchana Seth, the AI start up CEO accused of killing her four-year-old child, on Saturday told Goa police she had not allowed him to meet their child for the past five Sundays. Venkat Raman arrived at Calangute police station in the afternoon from Bengaluru to record his statement as part of the probe. Seth allegedly smothered her son to death in a service apartment in Candolim in north Goa, packed his corpse in a bag and hailed a taxi to go back to Bengaluru but was arrested mid-way on January 8 in Chitradurga in Karnataka, as per police. B'luru civic body to pay service tax on computer education for students: HC

The High Court of Karnataka has held that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is liable to pay service tax on the computer education for students of economically weaker sections it had outsourced to a private agency.Rejecting the contention of the civic body that it was exempted from paying service tax, the HC in its judgement said, the Corporation availing the services of the petitioners to render computer education to persons belonging to economically weaker section as regards which the Corporation has made the payment of monies to the petitioners would be amenable to service tax, that is to say, it is not exempted from service tax. Vasundhara AGK of Synergy Computer Education, NH Muralidhar of Systel Infos and Amba Prasad NH of Suftpro Technologies, had filed petitions before the HC seeking a direction to the BBMP to pay the service tax.
