Fire dept identifies 240 rooftop restaurants in Bengaluru violating norms

Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department has identified over 240 rooftop restaurants in the city which have allegedly violated fire safety norms and license rules, officials said on Sunday. These include bars, hookah bars and pubs, they said. Following a massive fire that broke out at a cafe in a multi-storied commercial building in the posh Koramangala area here early this month, the fire department started inspecting various such premises to check if the fire safety norms in these establishments were complied with. "Since the major fire incident at Koramangala, we started inspecting such rooftop establishments and so far till October 26, the fire department has identified 243 premises which have violated fire related safety norms and license rules," a senior fire official said. The government has exempted export of 'Bangalore Rose' onion from duty, subject to certain conditions. The Finance Ministry issued a notification granting exemption from export duty on Bangalore Rose onion provided that the exporter furnishes a certificate from the state horticulture commissioner, certifying the item and quantity of Bangalore Rose onion to be exported. In August, the government imposed a 40 per cent duty on export of all varieties of onions to increase domestic availability and check price rise in the local market.

Exide Industries expects to regain pre-covid EBITDA margin in 1-2 years

Storage battery major Exide Industries Ltd on Tuesday said it expects to regain its pre-covid EBITDA margin of 13-14 per cent in the next one to two years. The company's current EBITDA margin is 10.6 per cent, as input costs have remained erratic. "We are seeing a revamp in demand after Covid and expecting both automotive and industrial verticals will do well. However, it will take another one to two years to get back to the pre-covid level of margin," Exide Industries MD and CEO Subir Chakraborty said. Speaking about the company's Rs 6,000 crore 12GW lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant near Bangalore, Chakraborty said it is progressing well. He said the company remains unperturbed about the emerging alternative technologies, given the growth of the storage battery market and that all technologies will be required. Macrotech Developers sales bookings up 17% to Rs 3,350 cr in Apr-June qtr

Realty firm Macrotech Developers on Tuesday reported a 17 per cent growth in its sales bookings at Rs 3,350 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal year, mainly on better housing demand. Macrotech Developers, which sells properties under Lodha brand, had sold properties worth Rs 2,860 in the year-ago period. In a regulatory filing, Macrotech Developers informed that the company achieved its best-ever first quarter pre-sales performance at Rs 33.5 billion (Rs 3,350 crore) showing a growth of 17 per cent on a year-on-year basis. REC to provide Rs 3,045 cr finance to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation

State-owned REC Ltd will provide finance of Rs 3,045 crore to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation to develop Phase-II project in Bengaluru. REC approved a proposal in this regard at a board meeting held on Saturday, a company statement said. Phase-II project comprises extension of two corridors of Phase-I and establishing 2 new lines from RV Road to Bommasandra and Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. The project will enhance connectivity and ease traffic in the city. With completion of Phase-II (72.09 km), the combined network of Bangalore Metro will be 114.39 km, with 101 stations. REC is an NBFC focusing on power sector financing and development across India.

Indian space tech firm designs chip to track school buses, weapons systems

A Bengaluru-based space technology company has unveiled an indigenously designed NavIC chip which can use India's own navigation satellite system to provide positioning services that have applications in civilian and defence sectors. The 12-nanometre chip can be fitted into a mobile phone or any handheld device and can receive signals from the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) or the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), the Global Positioning System of the US and the GLONASS constellation of Russia. Designed by the IIT-Kharagpur incubated Elena Geo Systems, the chip was on Thursday presented to Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan in the presence of Samir V Kamat, chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.
