Effective defence-industry ecosystem developing in country: General Pande

Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande on Wednesday said an effective defence-industry ecosystem is taking shape in the country and veterans with their field experience are "ideally suited" for incorporation into indigenous research and manufacturing of technological solutions required by the force. In his address at the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) Summit 2024 held at the Manekshaw Centre here, he said the Army's responsibility towards its veterans remains a "sacred commitment". DMRC, BEL ink deal for indigenous communication-based train control system

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on Wednesday joined hands to develop an indigenous communication-based train control (i-CBTC) system, officials said. The team has commenced work at the i-CBTC lab of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and will soon develop and deploy a prototype i-CBTC product on a designated test track within the DMRC network, they said. With this partnership, the Delhi Metro and BEL are set to usher in a new era of rail transportation in India, driving innovation, reducing costs, and fostering self-reliance in the field of train control signalling systems, the DMRC said in a statement. BEL makes vehicle for NDRF to respond to biological, chemical disasters

State-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has designed and manufactured a vehicle for the National Disaster Response Force to respond to incidents involving hazardous chemicals, biological or radiological substances, a release said. The first CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear) HAZMAT (Hazardous Material) vehicle for NDRF was flagged off at BEL's Pune unit on Wednesday, it said. This vehicle is yet another achievement in BEL's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, said the release. The vehicle is used to detect, monitor and respond to hazardous chemical, biological or radiological incidents, where it is vital to plug or seal the source of contamination to contain any further release of hazardous substances, the release said. Bharat Electronics records 23% jump in PAT to Rs 531 crore in Q1 of FY24

'Navratna' defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has achieved a turnover of Rs 3,446.69 crore, registering a growth of 12.51 per cent during the first quarter of 2023-24 over the Rs 3,063.58 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. Profit before tax during the period stood at Rs 703.75 crore, a growth of 21.73 per cent over Rs 578.10 crore recorded in the first quarter of the previous financial year, the Bengaluru-headquartered state-owned firm said in a statement. Profit after tax (PAT) during the first quarter of 2023-24 stood at Rs 530.84 crore, up 23.02 per cent over Rs 431.49 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. The order book position of the company as on July 1, 2023, stood at Rs 65,356 crore, it was stated.

Bharat Electronics bags defence, non-defence orders worth Rs 2,191 cr

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) on Friday said it has received new defence and non-defence orders worth Rs 2,191 crore. The orders are for supplying long-range guidance kits with warheads, airborne jammers, battlefield short range surveillance radars upgrades, missile guidance radars, shallow water craft sonars and spares, among others, it said in a statement. The Bengaluru-headquartered defence major had received Rs 5,900 crore worth orders from the Navy earlier this month. With this, BEL has in all received orders worth Rs 8,091 crore so far this financial year, the statement said.

Navratna defence PSU BEL receives export orders worth $52 million in March

Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has received export orders worth USD 52 million during this month, the company said on Friday. This includes communication equipment, electronics assembly, micro modules and mechanical parts for various customers from France, Israel, and the USA, among others, the Bengaluru-headquartered company said in a statement. "This is reflective of the growing business interest and confidence among international customers on BEL and other Indian industries, which comes with the encouragement of the Indian Government and its policies aimed at an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'," BEL said.

Defence Ministry inks contracts with BEL, NSIL to bolster capabilities

In line with its vision for self-reliance, the Defence Ministry on Wednesday signed signed three contracts -- two with Bharat Electronics Limited and one with NewSpace India Limited -- worth nearly Rs 5,400 crore to bolster the defence capabilities of the country. The first contract with BEL pertains to procurement of Automated Air Defence Control and Reporting System, 'Project Akashteer', worth Rs 1,982 crore for the Indian Army, the ministry said in a statement. The second contract with BEL relates to acquisition of Sarang Electronic Support Measure (ESM) systems along with associated engineering support package from BEL, Hyderabad, at an cost of Rs 412 crore for the Indian Navy, it said. "The contract with NSIL, a central Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Space, Bengaluru, pertains to procurement of an advanced communication satellite, GSAT 7B, which will provide high throughput services to the Indian Army at an overall cost of Rs 2,963 crore.

BEL & Israel Aerospace to form JV for product support to Indian defence

Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have concluded a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to form a joint venture aiming at a single point of contact for extending long-term product support services for India's defence forces. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhat, at Aero India 2023, the ongoing biennial air show and aviation exhibition, at Yelahanka Air Force Station here, a BEL statement said. The partnership is another significant step in cementing the relationship between the two companies that have a long history of association, it said. BEL, a 'Navratna' company which is a leading manufacturer of defence electronic products and systems, and IAI, a top aerospace and defence company in Israel, are engaged in several joint programmes for the Indian armed forces. BEL, IISc ink pact to work together in AI, ML and emerging technologies

Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to work together in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and other emerging technologies. The MoU, inked on the sidelines of the ongoing Aero India 2023 here, aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and IISc, Bengaluru-headquartered BEL said in a statement. The agreement will enable BEL and IISc to develop various products and services wherein AI is embedded and integrated. BEL signs MoU with Aerosense Tech to leverage complementary strengths

Defence public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd for co-operation in the development and marketing of drones and soft kill aerial anti-drone. The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd, said a joint statement from the companies. The tie-up would enable the two companies design and develop drones and soft kill aerial anti-drone systems. Besides, the two would explore marketing and sale of drone-based solutions for applications in defence and civilian domains for the domestic and export markets.
