Logistics operator Pristine Value Logistics on Thursday said it has signed a long-term lease agreement with the Antariksh Group for acquiring 165,000 sq ft area at Bhiwandi to commission a warehousing facility. The Grade A built-to-suit multi-client warehouse is expected to be operational by March next year, a company statement said. "We are growing our warehouse capacity to meet the rising demand and to ensure our customers get efficient, customised and scalable solutions. Powerloom owners in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district have called for a complete shutdown of their units from November 1 to 20 to press for their long-pending demands from the government. Around 700 powerloom owners held a meeting here and decided to keep the units shut for 20 days to draw the government's attention to their woes, ranging from yarn prices and taxes to electricity rates. "The Central and state governments are to blame for the pathetic situation in Bhiwandi, which is considered the Manchester of India," said Naresh Sancheti, a representative of the powerloom owners. The Bhiwandi industry employs nearly five lakh workers drawn from different states and during this period they will have to starve as they won't have any work or wages, he said. Of the 15 lakh powerlooms, only 10 lakh are functional due to various reasons, he said. The toll in the collapse of a two-storey building in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra's Thane district reached five on Sunday afternoon after the body of man was recovered from the debris even as search and rescue operations continued more than 24 hours after the incident. The building in Wardhaman Compound in Valpada in Mankoli, which housed godowns on the ground and first floors and four families on the top floor, collapsed into a heap of concrete at 1:45pm on Saturday.
