BHU Chancellor Giridhar Malaviya dies at 88; irreparable loss, says PM Modi

Retired Justice Giridhar Malaviya, the grandson of Banaras Hindu University founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, died on Monday at his house in Prayagraj. He was 88. Manoj Malaviya said his father had been unwell since last week but did not suffer from any major illness. Malaviya is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. Malaviya served as a judge at the Allahabad High Court from 1988 to 1998. In November 2018, he was unanimously elected as the Banaras Hindu University Chancellor. "The Banaras Hindu University is deeply saddened by the passing away of Honourable Chancellor, Justice (retd) Sh. Giridhar Malaviya ji. Our heartfelt tributes," BHU said in a post on X. IIT-BHU student allegedly molested, stripped by 3 motorcycle-borne men

A student of IIT-BHU was allegedly molested and stripped by three motorcycle-borne men, who also recorded a video of the act, near her hostel here, police said on Thursday. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students on Thursday held a protest. They claimed outside elements were involved in the incident and demanded that outsiders be banned from entering the campus. According to a complaint lodged by the woman, she was out with a friend on Wednesday night. They were near the Karman Baba temple when three men came there on a motorcycle and forcibly took her to a corner and gagged her after separating her from her friend. The accused then stripped the woman, made a video of her and clicked photos. They let her go after 15 minutes and took her phone number, the complaint stated. 2,000 km in 30 days: NBT's 'bookshop on wheels' is at Kashi Tamil Sangamam

Thirty days, more than 2,000 km, 600 book titles and two people managing a bus-turned-bookshop -- the display and sale of "books on wheels" are grabbing eyeballs at the month-long Kashi Tamil Sangamam at the BHU campus here. The bus left for a month-long journey from Delhi on November 15, a day before the mega conclave began. Navigating the lanes of Varanasi to reach hotspots, visiting various schools and multiple places at the Banaras Hindu University campus, the bus was stationed at a different location everyday to help visitors enjoy the collection of books inside. The unique library-cum-bookshop is an initiative by the National Book Trust, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education.
