Inquiry report on UK's infected blood scandal to be revealed on Monday

The final report of the UK's infected blood inquiry will be published Monday, nearly six years after it began looking into how tens of thousands of people contracted HIV or hepatitis from transfusions of tainted blood and blood products in the 1970s and 1980s. The scandal is widely seen as the deadliest to afflict Britain's state-run National Health Service since its inception in 1948, with around 3,000 people believed to have died as a result of being infected with the HIV virus and hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver. The report is expected to criticise pharmaceutical firms and medical practitioners, civil servants and politicians, though many have already died given the passage of time. Delhi CM launches blood donation drive, asks people to donate twice a year

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched a mega blood donation drive on the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. During the event, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader called upon everyone to pledge to donate blood twice a year and said there was a need to inculcate the culture of blood donation in a campaign mode as there were few voluntary donors. Over 100,000 donate blood on PM Modi's birthday, creating world record

Over one lakh people donated blood on Saturday as part of the fortnight-long 'Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav', which began on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, creating a "world record" for single-day donations, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said. Union Health Minister Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya on Friday said that a web portal has recently been created to provide information on the blood types available in the banks across the country, thus giving a momentum to the voluntary blood donation movement. The minister, who is a physician, told a virtual press meet from Delhi that 7,017 NGOs joined hands to float eRaktKosh.in for giving out all necessary information on blood availability, as part of the Centre's 'one nation, one platform' initiative. The BJP will organise "unity in diversity" festivals, a blood donation drive and a cleanliness drive across the country as part of its fortnight-long "seva" campaign to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on Saturday.
