Tata Motors, M&M, MG Motors face supply issues from China over coronavirus

Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) and MG Motor India on Sunday said they are facing challenges in terms of component supply from coronavirus hit-China. M&M has reported a 42 per cent decline in total sales at 32,476 units in February. "...because of the unforeseeable challenges on the parts-supply from China, our BS VI ramp-up has been affected," Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd said in a statement. This has resulted in high de-growth in billing volume for February and dealer inventory is now under 10 days, he said. "Going into March, we anticipate the challenge on parts-supply to continue for another few weeks, before we get back to normalcy," he added. Girish Wagh, President, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors Ltd said the outbreak of Covid-19 in China and a recent fire incident at one of its strategic vendors affected the vehicle production and wholesale volumes. Honda Motorcycle crosses 300,000 sales milestone of BS-VI two-wheelers

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Wednesday said it has crossed 3 lakh sales milestone for BS VI compliant units. HMSI's BS VI model line-up now comprises five models -- Activa 125, SP 125, Activa 6G, Dio and Shine. All four factories of the company have moved to 100 per cent BS-VI production with one month still remaining for the government deadline, HMSI said in a statement. "Honda was the first two-wheeler manufacturer to lead the BS-VI transition almost six months ahead of the deadline. Over three lakh customers are now experiencing #AQuietRevolution led by Honda's advanced technologies like eSP, many first-in-segment features like ACG starter motor and significant mileage-up," HMSI Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing Yadvinder Singh Guleria said. The coming weeks will see Honda's BS-VI line-up get more robust with new introductions across segments, he added.

BS-VI norms: Maruti pitches for petrol variants to make up for lost numbers

India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India is banking on introduction of petrol variants of existing models such as Vitara Brezza besides exploring more CNG options to make up for lost numbers as it discontinues diesel options while moving to BS-VI emission norms. The company, which last week showcased the petrol version of its popular compact SUV Vitara Brezza that was earlier available only in diesel option, is also gearing up to bring petrol version of its S-Cross model. "We have the optimism to recover what we are losing in diesel through this increase in petrol. We have a double task. It is not like comparing current portfolio with next year, it is like current portfolio minus diesel in next year," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Executive Director (Marketing & Sales) Shashank Srivastava told PTI.
