A multi-storey building of a textile factory collapsed in Focal Point area here late Saturday evening, officials said. Six workers are feared trapped under the debris, they said, adding that the rescue operation was underway. One worker has already been rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, they said. The incident occurred in the Focal Point Phase-8 area on Saturday evening. Initially, seven workers were trapped under the debris. According to an eye witness, a loud sound was heard before the building caved in. Two teams of National Disaster Response Force and other teams of police, fire brigade and factories departments, the Municipal Corporation were undertaking the rescue operation. The operation was underway to bring out the six workers trapped beneath the debris. All 28 workers trapped under the rubble of a collapsed under-construction building at Kannauj railway station were pulled out safely after a 16-hour-long overnight operation, officials said on Sunday. Of the rescued workers, 26 of them have been admitted to various hospitals in Kannauj, while the rest two with serious injuries shifted to the Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur, they said. One more body was recovered on Friday during a search and rescue operation after an under-construction building collapsed at Babusapalya here, taking the death toll to nine, police said. Teams from the fire and emergency department, National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have been pressed into rescue operations since the incident occurred during heavy downpour on Tuesday, they said. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the next of kin of each deceased in a building collapse here, and said the government will bear the full medical expenses of those injured. A portion of a three-storey residential building, a property of the Maharashtra government's housing agency MHADA, collapsed in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. No one was injured in the incident after which the building, which consisted of 30 rooms and eight shops, was vacated, they said. The slab and plaster from the first floor of the building, 'Karim', located in central Mumbai's Madanpura locality, fell at around 12.45 pm, a civic official said, citing information received from the Fire Brigade. "There was no report of injury to anyone," the official said. He said the building was a property of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that a "narrative" was being built over demolition of properties.
