Bullet train to transform Mumbai-Ahmedabad region, says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Friday said the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will prove to be a corridor of economic prosperity, transforming towns and cities along the route and becoming a learning experience for future initiatives. Vaishnaw triggered a blast to build a shaft at Vikhroli to lower tunnel boring machines (TBM) for the construction of the 21-km underground tunnel, which is considered to be a technological marvel of India's first bullet train project. "Trains will zip through the tunnel at a maximum speed of up to 320 km. Constructing it without disturbing the tall buildings in the area is a challenge," the railway minister said. The shaft at the Vikhroli site of the National High Speed Rail Corridor is one among the four to be built for the entire 21-km-long underground stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. The shaft-2 will be used to launch two TBMs -- one towards the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) station's east end and the other towards Sawl

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will help improve the partnership between Gujarat and Mumbai at the social level, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said here on Wednesday. Gujarat and Mumbai are important pillars of the Indian economy, and ongoing infrastructure projects where the two have partnered will help both, he said. Speaking at an investor roadshow here ahead of the tenth 'Vibrant Gujarat' summit here, Patel said while Mumbai is the financial capital of the country, Gujarat has become the most preferred investment destination. "The bullet train project will help infrastructure development and economic activities, but also improve the partnership on the social level," Patel said in comments that come amid some instances showing a lack of warmth between Marathi and Gujarati-speaking communities in the financial capital. Recently, workers from the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena allegedly vandalised Gujarati posters in suburban Ghatkopar, which has a .

More than 98% land acquired for bullet train project in Maharashtra: Govt

Work on the railways' ambitious bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has gained momentum, with the ministry claiming on Monday that more than 98 per cent of the land has been acquired for the project in Maharashtra. Piers have been erected for a distance of more than 118 kilometres, girders are being launched and the work on the construction of bullet train stations has also started, the railway ministry said. With the change of government in Maharashtra, the pain points in the project in terms of forest clearances and land acquisition seem to have been overcome. In a series of tweets, the ministry claimed that while 98.22 per cent land has been acquired in Maharashtra, in Gujarat, 98.87 per cent land has been acquired and in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 100 per cent of the land has been acquired for the project.
