Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Sunday reported a 17 per cent year-on-year growth in overall auto sales at 75,604 units in September 2023. Passenger vehicles sales were at 41,267 units last month as against 34,508 units in September 2022, a growth of 20 per cent, M&M said in a statement. The company further said its utility vehicles sales were at 41,267 units as against 34,262 units in the year-ago month, up 20 per cent. M&M had nil sales of cars and vans last month although it sold 246 units in the category in September 2022. "While demand for our key SUV brands continues to be strong, we are keeping a close watch on the availability of semi-conductors and select components to meet the strong festive season demand," M&M President, Automotive Division, Veejay Nakra said. M&M said its total exports declined 5 per cent last month at 2,419 units as compared to 2,538 units in September 2022.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday said its total wholesales increased 53 per cent year-on-year to 23,590 units in September, its highest-ever in a month. The automaker had dispatched 15,378 units to dealers in the same month last year. Total sales achieved include 22,168 domestic units and export of 1,422 units, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said in a statement. Toyota Kirloskar Motor Vice President of Sales and Strategic Marketing Atul Sood said the sales performance underlines the growing acceptance of the company's diverse product portfolio. "We are witnessing sustained demand across our product line-up which is leading to the company's record-breaking performance... As we move forward in the festive season, we are expecting a promising period with demand continuing to grow thus further enhancing our sales performance," he added. MG Motor India on Sunday reported a 31 per cent year-on-year growth in retail sales at 5,003 units in September 2023. Sales of electric vehicles continue to contribute around 25 per cent of the total sales of the company, MG Motor said in a statement. Volvo Car India on Wednesday said its sales grew 33 per cent year-on-year to 1,089 units in the January-June period. The company had delivered 818 units in the corresponding period of last year. The growth was primarily driven by the XC60, which experienced a substantial 35 per cent increase resulting in 376 deliveries, the automaker said in a statement. Additionally, the locally assembled all-electric XC40 Recharge performed exceptionally well, with sales of 289 units in the first half of the year, accounting for 27 per cent of the total volume, it added. "The performance in the first half serves as a promising indicator, instilling confidence that the upcoming months will yield even better outcomes," Volvo Car India Managing Director Jyoti Malhotra noted. Wholesale, retail volumes up 30% and 29%, respectively
Tata Motors on Saturday reported a 1 per cent rise in total domestic sales at 80,383 units in June 2023 as against 79,606 units in the year-ago month. Domestic passenger vehicle sales, including electric vehicles, were at 47,235 units as compared to 45,197 units in the same month a year ago, a growth of 5 per cent, Tata Motors said in a statement. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said the passenger vehicle industry in Q1 FY24 witnessed a robust demand driven by new launches, especially in the SUV segment and EVs. German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz is looking at around 20 per cent of its total sales this year to come from pre-owned car sales despite sourcing of used vehicles remaining a challenge, according to a senior company official. The company's arm Mercedes-Benz India had sold over 3,000 pre-owned cars last year and is witnessing robust demand for such vehicles with the holding period coming down to around 10 days as compared to 30 to 45 days earlier. "Still 18 to 20 per cent of our total car sales will come from used cars. So last year, if we did 16,000-odd cars, I will say 3,000 plus cars were used cars, about 20 per cent. Automobile retail sales rose 10 per cent in May on the back of robust demand across segments including passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and tractors, automobile dealers' body FADA said on Monday. The total automobile retail sales jumped to 20,19,414 units last month, from 18,33,421 units in May 2022. Passenger vehicle sales rose by 4 per cent to 2,98,873 units in May, as compared to 2,86,523 units in the year-ago period. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said improved availability of vehicles coupled with pending order list and the robust demand for new launches drove a positive momentum, helping the passenger vehicle segment rebound after a slump in the previous month. MG Motor India on Thursday reported 25 per cent rise in retail sales at 5,006 units in May compared to the same month last year. The company had sold 4,008 units in May 2022.
