A global shortage of semiconductors hit autos production in the world's biggest car market.
Tata Motors on Thursday said its global wholesales, including that of Jaguar Land Rover, rose to 2,14,250 units in the first quarter of the current fiscal.
The vehicle retail sales rose to 12,17,151 units last month from 9,92,610 units sold during June 2020.
The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) posted total sales of 1,47,368 units in June, up from 46,555 units in May.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Thursday reported total sales of 54,474 units in June, up 77 per cent from 30,703 units in May, recovering from disruptions induced by the second wave of COVID-19. The automaker's domestic dispatches to its dealerships stood at 40,496 units last month, as compared to 25,001 units in May this year, the automaker said in a statement. Exports rose to 13,978 units in June, as against 5,702 units in May, it added. "With markets opening up and improvement in customer sentiments, the company is committed to deliver innovative and world class quality products and services meeting and exceeding customers aspirations," HMIL Director (Sales, Marketing & Service) Tarun Garg noted. The newly launched model Alcazar, has been receiving tremendous customer response setting some new benchmarks in the industry, he added.

The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed officials to visit the factories of car makers near here, including that of Renault-Nissan, to put in place uniform COVID-19 guidelines like maintenance of physical distance between workers in such premises. The Directorate of Industrial Safety (DIS) was directed by the court to depute representatives to visit the manufacturing facility of Renault-Nissan and others this week. This is to ensure that uniform guidelines are imposed and if a departure is necessary, the special reasons for it should be indicated, the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said.
