Cleanliness continuous process, requires participation: Jitendra Singh

Union minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said cleanliness is not just a one-time effort but a continuous process that requires collective participation. "Swachchata Hi Sewa is not just a campaign but a nationwide movement that reflects the collective will and determination of the people of India. It resonates deeply with Mahatma Gandhi's vision of cleanliness and dignity for all," he said while leading a cleanliness campaign in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The drive goes beyond physical cleanliness -- it fosters a mindset of responsibility towards one's surroundings and contributes to a healthier, more sustainable future -- the minister of state for personnel said. Centre to speed up cleanliness drives after earning Rs 1,162 cr from scrap

The Centre has earned Rs 1,162 crore from scrap disposal during its special cleanliness drives and plans are afoot to further accelerate it with the help of the states, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said on Monday. The cleanliness campaigns carried out at over four lakh sites have resulted in weeding out nearly 96.10 lakh files, including electronic files, besides freeing up 355.50 lakh square feet of space, which can house a huge shopping complex or a mall, he said. "As much as Rs 1,162.49 crore has been earned through disposal of office scrap, including e-waste such as old computers and other electronic items. The cleanliness drive has become India's largest campaign for institutionalising 'swachata'," Singh told PTI. Sports Ministry to launch nationwide month-long Clean India Programme

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will launch a nationwide month-long Clean India Programme from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to encourage people's participation in cleaning waste, mainly single use plastic. The cleanliness drive, to be organised by the sports ministry, is being taken up as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and will run from October 1 to 31. The programme is being organised in six lakh villages of 744 districts across the country through the networks of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan(NYKS) affiliated Youth Clubs & National Service Scheme affiliated Institutions, said a release. Youth Affairs Secretary Usha Sharma said the aim of the cleanliness drive was to create awareness, mobilise people and ensure their involvement in cleaning waste.
