Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday greeted the people of the country on Constitution Day, and said it is the responsibility of all to ensure that justice and rights are equal for all. Constitution Day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. "Justice and rights should be equal for all so that the Constitution does not become just a paper, it is the responsibility of all of us," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi. "Greetings to all on the Constitution Day of the country," he also said using the hashtag "#ConstitutionDay2021".

Congress, many opposition parties to boycott Constitution Day event

The Congress and several other opposition parties have decided to boycott the Constitution Day celebrations in the Central Hall of Parliament on Friday, sources said. President Ram Nath Kovind will address the function. The Congress has decided to boycott the event and several other opposition parties have joined hands in solidarity, sources confirmed. The Congress leaders were in touch with leaders of many opposition parties for joining them in the boycott, sources said, adding DMK, Shiv Sena, RSP, NCP, SP, TMC, the CPI, CPI (M), RJD, JMM, IUML are likely to join hands and give the event a miss.

Constitution Day to be celebrated in Parliament's Central Hall on Nov 26

As part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', the Constitution Day will be celebrated in the Central Hall of Parliament on November 26 and President Ram Nath Kovind will preside over the event, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference about the event, Joshi said the main event will be attended by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and various other dignitaries. The event is being organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat and Speaker, the parliamentary affairs minister said. "Celebration of Constitution Day was started in 2015 by PM @narendramodi. This time, the main function in the central hall will be organised by @loksabhaspeaker & @LokSabhaSectt. #PresidentKovind, VP @MVenkaiahNaidu & PM @narendramodi will participate: Union Minister @JoshiPralhad," the Press Information Bureau tweeted.
