FIR against contractor, consultant over Shivaji Maharaj's statue collapse

Police in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district have registered a case against the contractor and the structural consultant in connection with the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue, officials said on Tuesday. The 35-foot statue of the 17th century Maratha warrior king, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot fort in Malvan tehsil of Sindhudurg on Navy Day (December 4) last year, collapsed around 1 pm on Monday. The incident caused embarrassment to the Eknath Shinde-led state government and invited criticism from the opposition parties. CM Shinde said the statue was designed and constructed by the Indian Navy. A complaint was lodged by an assistant engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) at Malvan police station on Monday evening. As per the complainant, the artist and the consultant were responsible for the collapse of the statue, an official said. Rajasthan announces one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for registered gig workers

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday announced a one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for gig workers to purchase helmets, uniforms and other items of daily use when they register with the state government. The announcement will benefit delivery personnel working with companies such as Ola, Uber, Swiggy and Zomato, among others. "The gig workers will get Rs 5,000 as a one-time payment on registration," Gehlot said during a function to release the "Mission 2030" document in Jaipur. He also announced a 90 per cent fare exemption on Rajasthan Roadways buses for those with monthly passes. The government will also set up a ministerial employees directorate to handle all works related to ministry staff -- including promotions, transfers and postings -- in different departments, the chief minister announced.

Odisha to regularise 57,000 contract employees, abolish contractual hirings

Abolishing contractual hirings for state government posts, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced that all 57,000 contract employees will be regularised. The decision, for which the state government will spend an additional Rs 1,300 crore per year, was taken at a Cabinet meeting on the eve of the chief minister's 76th birthday. The notification regarding it will be issued on Sunday, Patnaik said in a video message.
