Fresh violence broke out in Manipur on Saturday as militants attacked a village in Jiribam district, an official said. Using sophisticated weapons, the militants opened fire, targeting the village in the vicinity of the Borobekra police station around 5 am, he said. They also charged bombs, he added. CRPF and police personnel retaliated and a heavy exchange of fire was underway, the official said. Additional security forces were being rushed to the spot, he said. No casualties have been reported so far, he said. Elderly people, women and children were being moved to safer places by security forces as the violence broke out. Borobekra, located around 30 km from Jiribam town, is surrounded by thick forests and a mountainous terrain. A terrorist was killed during an exchange of fire with CRPF personnel deployed at an Election Commission-directed check post in Baramulla district on Saturday, officials said. The incident took place at around 3 pm near a veterinary hospital in the Watergam area of Sopore in the said district. Officials said a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) party drawn from the 92nd battalion was deployed at a 'naka' (check post) when a terrorist fired shots at them using a pistol. The troops, present at the check post along with a magistrate-rank officer, retaliated leading to the killing of the terrorist, they said. Soon after, Army troops and a police unit too reached the spot and the body of the terrorist was recovered along with a pistol, two grenades and two magazines, the officials said. Two CRPF personnel were killed and two others injured as militants allegedly attacked a camp of security forces in Manipur's Bishnupur district in the early hours of Saturday, police said. The militants attacked an IRBn (India Reserve Battalion) camp at Naranseina in the Moirang police station area, they said. "The militants fired indiscriminately from hilltops, targetting the camp. It started around 12.30 am and continued till about 2.15 am. The militants also hurled bombs, one of which exploded in the outpost of CRPF's 128 battalion," a senior police officer said. The deceased were identified as CRPF sub-inspector N Sarkar and head constable Arup Saini, he said. The injured were inspector Jadav Das and constable Aftab Das, he said, adding that they received splinter wounds. The CRPF personnel were deployed to provide security to the IRBn camp. A massive search was underway to find the perpetrators of the attack, police said.
Eleven Central Reserve Police Force troopers were injured after a storm hit their camp in Bastar district in Chhattisgarh on Friday afternoon, an official said. The camp of 241st battalion, located at Sedva village under Dharbha police station limits, some 336 kilometres from state capital Raipur, suffered substantial damage after a powerful storm hit it, Inspector General of Police Bastar Sundarraj P said. "Eleven CRPF jawans were injured in the incident. The residential quarters of jawans were damaged as the storm blew away tin sheets that formed the roof, power lines, iron frames and false ceilings," he said. "The wind speed was so high that tin sheets were scattered across the camp and several trees were uprooted. The injured jawans have been admitted in the battalion hospital and are out of danger," the IG added.
A CRPF officer was killed in a militant attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, an official said. "At about 2:20 pm, terrorists fired upon the joint naka party of police and the CRPF in Gangoo area of south Kashmir," the official said. Central Reserve Police Force assistant sub-inspector Vinod Kumar was injured in the attack. He was shifted to a hospital in Pulwama, but succumbed to injuries, the official said.
