Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said dairy is a sensitive sector in India as it involves livelihood issues of small farmers and there are no plans at all to give any kind of duty concessions under any Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in this area. He said that India has not given any duty concessions in the dairy sector even to Switzerland and Norway under the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) trade pact, which was signed in March. With Australia also, he said, that the sector was discussed but India clearly conveyed the sensitivities involved in this area. "Our average holding with the farmer is small. It is 2-3 acre farm with 3-4 live stocks whereas Australia's farm and their dairy farms are both very large and it would be near impossible for these large and small farms to compete with each other on a common footing. India's dairy industry is expected to witness healthy revenue growth of 13-14 per cent this financial year, as strong consumer demand continues along with improved supply of raw milk, a report said on Wednesday. While demand will be supported by rising consumption of value added products (VAP), ample milk supply will be driven by good monsoon prospects, Crisil Ratings said in a report. Rise in raw milk supply will also lead to higher working capital requirements for dairy players, the report noted. Though continued capital expenditure (capex) by organised dairies over the next two fiscals will result in debt levels inching up, the credit profiles will be stable supported by strong balance sheets. "Amidst modest growth of 2-4 per cent in realisation, the dairy industry's revenues are seen rising on healthy 9-11 per cent growth in volumes. VAP segment - 40 per cent contributor to the industry revenues - will be the primary driver, fueled by rising income levels and consumer transitio

Strong demand for value added products and stable consumption of liquid milk will lead to a 14-16 per cent revenue growth for the organised dairy industry in 2023-24, a report said on Thursday. With raw milk supply improving, there will be fewer price hikes and profitability will recover 20-50 basis points, Crisil Ratings said in the report. This fiscal, the segment should grow 18-20 per cent and consequently, the share of VAP in overall revenue could rise to 40 per cent from 35 per cent four fiscals back," Crisil Ratings Senior Director Mohit Makhija said. He also said that given that demand from both retail and institutional segments remained strong, the share of VAP will continue to rise and on the other hand, liquid milk revenue will grow 8-10 per cent this fiscal backed by steady demand. Further, the report said that in the last fiscal, disruptions in raw milk supply
