DCW ends services of contractual staff, Kejriwal assures of reinstatement

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday accused the BJP of snatching the livelihoods of hundreds of contractual employees of the DCW before Diwali and assured them that they will be reinstated. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) in an order earlier on Monday discontinued the services of all its contractual staff with immediate effect. Kejriwal assured the affected workers that his party would fight to get their jobs reinstated. "I assure my sisters who have been fired from DCW that I will get them their jobs back, no matter what it takes," the former Delhi chief minister said in a post on X. Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia criticised the BJP for dismissing the contractual staff at the DCW, calling it a direct contradiction of the saffron party's promises of job creation in its manifestos. The BJP has done wrong by snatching the jobs of people just before Diwali. Their manifestos talk about giving employment, but

DCW ends services of all contractual staff, AAP blames BJP for timing

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) in an order on Monday, discontinued the services of all its contractual staff with immediate effect. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) blamed the role of the BJP behind the move saying that it was disappointing that the party "cruelly" chose Diwali, to render hundreds of DCW staff jobless and effectively 'terminating' their families' celebrations. The DCW cited an order of Women and Child Development (WCD) order dated April 29 granting it approval of the Lt Governor for the termination of the staff. The services of all the contractual staff appointed at any point in time are discontinued with immediate effect, said the DCW order. Official sources claimed that the contractual staff were recruited against the rules and there were complaints of illegality in the hiring process. A total of 223 contractual posts were created in DCW but 52 staff were engaged with the commission when the WCD had discontinued their service in April this year, they ...

Swati Maliwal slams Saxena over termination of DCW staff, LG hits back

Former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Thursday slammed Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena over the termination of contractual employees of the commission, questioning how it will function if most of its staff are dismissed. The LG office hit back at Maliwal, alleging she was resorting to "mudslinging" to "cover up her own wrongdoing". "A certain individual, belonging to a particular political party, has indulged into an unfortunate and despicable mudslinging against the Lt Governor of Delhi. The same has been done only and exclusively to cover up her own wrongdoings - omissions and commissions in a recruitment scam that she spearheaded," LG office said in a statement. Addressing a press conference, Maliwal alleged, "The LG in his 'Tughlaqi farman' (arbitrary order) has asked for removing all the contractual staff (of DCW). There are 90 staff in DCW out of which only eight are permanent and the rest 82 are contractual workers employed for low wages at three months .

Nothing has changed in a decade: DCW chief 11 years after Nirbhaya case

Nothing has changed in the past decade and crimes against women in Delhi have only gone up, DCW chief Swati Maliwal said on Saturday on the 11th anniversary of the Nirbhaya incident -- a brutal gang-rape and assault case that stirred an outpouring of anger and grief, followed by the passage of several new sexual assault laws in the country. A 23-year-old physiotherapy intern, who came to be known as "Nirbhaya (the fearless one)", was raped and assaulted by six men inside a bus in south Delhi on December 16, 2012, before being thrown out of the moving vehicle. She died from her injuries on December 29 in Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital, where she was flown by air-ambulance. "A tragic incident happened with Nirbhaya in 2012 when she was gang-raped. That girl died in agony," Maliwal told PTI. "At the time of the incident, people came out onto the streets to seek change. But despite years after that tragedy, we stand at the same place. Crimes against women are increasing day by day

Impose president's rule in Manipur: DCW in report to President Murmu

President's rule should be urgently imposed in Manipur and a Supreme Court monitored SIT be set up to probe clashes in the state, the Delhi Commission for Women has said in a report listing interim recommendations sent to President Droupadi Murmu. DCW chief Swati Maliwal was in Manipur last week to interact with survivors of the ethnic violence that has wracked the state since May. "Given the extent of violence and the polarization between the two communities, President's rule, as per Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, should be urgently imposed in the state. The administration needs to be run by neutral persons whom both communities can trust," the report said. As part of the interim recommendations, the DCW has said Chief Minister N Biren Singh should resign from office and that a Supreme Court Monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) be set up to probe ethnic clashes and the government's response.
