The Delhi government is expected to announce a fiscal boost of about Rs 1,000 crore for initiatives to uplift unauthorised colonies in its upcoming budget, sources on Saturday said. Delhi Finance Minister Atishi is slated to present the budget 2024-25 on March 4. In the upcoming budget of the state government, Delhiites can expect a big fiscal boost for unauthorised colonies, especially for strengthening their road infrastructure, a source told PTI. "For the fiscal year 2024-25, the Kejriwal government may announce a budgetary package of nearly Rs 1000 crore," the source said. Delhi has nearly 1,800 unauthorised colonies, accommodating 30 per cent of the city's population. The Delhi government is likely to strengthen the road network in these unauthorised colonies and augment water supply pipelines and sewer networks. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directed the officials to come up with a time-bound plan for regularisation of the unauthorised colonies and stressed that the process needed to be made simple and hassle-free, said officials of the Raj Niwas on Monday. Following the passage of the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) 2023 by the Parliament recently, Saxena chaired a meeting with the chief secretary, the officials of urban development, PWD, the vice-chairman of DDA, the commissioner of MCD and other senior officials of various stakeholder departments/agencies, they added. The Delhi Development Authority has launched a mega e-auction for prime plots, built-up shops, kiosks and mobile tower sites among other properties, officials said on Wednesday. Online bidding of these properties has been scheduled for three days from November 7 to 9, and the exercise has been grouped for public convenience, they said. "The DDA (Delhi Development Authority) has invited bids for 50 institutional plots, including 20 religious sites on leasehold basis, 12 industrial plots, 46 residential plots, two group housing plots, 28 commercial plots and 19 small-size residential plots at Rohini, all on freehold basis," the urban body said in a statement. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) started a demolition drive on Friday in the Mehrauli area amid police security. Locals claimed that the drive that started in the morning was demolishing two and three-storeyed buildings near Aulia Masjid at Andehria More along with shanties. The land on which the alleged encroachment was done belonged to multiple agencies including DDA, Waqf Board, and ASI, they claimed. "A demolition drive is being carried out by the Horticulture Department of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. Police personnel have been deployed on the spot as preventive protection for DDA officials to carry out their duties and also to maintain law and order in the locality. Initially, the localities had staged a protest against the demolition but the situation was later brought under control," said a senior police official.
