No relief in cold wave conditions in North India, temperature below normal

There was no let-up in the cold wave condition in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday with minimum temperatures staying below normal at several places. Hisar in Haryana was the coldest place as it shivered at 3.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal, according to a report of the Meteorological Department here. Among other places, Ambala and Karnal experienced cold weather conditions at 6.2 and 4.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Narnaul, Sirsa, Faridabad, and Fatehabad recorded 7.6 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees Celsius, 3.9 degrees Celsius, and 3.6 degrees Celsius. Faridkot in Punjab was the coldest place in the state as it shivered at 3.6 degrees Celsius. Amritsar reeled at 3.7 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their respective minimums of 6 and 6.5 degrees Celsius. Dense fog in Delhi on Republic Day, minimum temperature 4.7 degrees

Dense fog engulfed Delhi on Republic Day and the minimum temperature in the city settled at 4.7 degrees Celsius, officials said on Friday. The conditions are expected to improve by the time the 75th Republic Day parade commences on Kartavya Path. According to the weather office, the Indira Gandhi Airport and the Safdarjung airport reported dense fog with visibility of 100 metres and 300 metres respectively at 8.30 am. The morning was cold, with the minimum temperature recorded four notches below the season's average. The weatherman predicted partly cloudy skies for the day and said the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 20 degrees Celsius. The IMD had issued an orange alert for Friday. Delhi on Thursday recorded a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's, and a maximum temperature of 20.5 degrees Celsius.

Delhi's temperature dips to 4.8 degrees, orange alert for dense fog

Delhiites woke up to a cold and foggy morning as the minimum temperature in the national capital on Thursday dipped to 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average, the weather department said. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "orange alert" for dense fog at isolated places in Delhi for Thursday. Twenty four trains to New Delhi have been running late due to low visibility. The national capital's maximum temperature for the day is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius. Delhi has experienced five cold days and five cold wave days in January so far, the highest in the past 13 years, according to IMD. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city stood at 355 at 9 am, according to data by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Delhi winters: Metrological department issues yellow alert for dense fog

A dense layer of fog is expected to engulf Delhi on Tuesday with the meteorological department issuing a yellow alert for the day. The maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 17.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.1 degrees Celsius as against 4.8 degrees Celsius the previous day, the weather office said. Safdarjung, Delhi's main weather station, recorded a visibility of 500 metres at 5.30 am, while the visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport was 1,000 metres at 6.30 am. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly clear sky and moderate to dense fog in the morning for Tuesday with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to settle around 18 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively. Delhi's max temperature 15.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal

The national capital on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 15.8 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department. The minimum temperature was 4.8 degrees Celsius while the humidity level at 5.30 pm was 71 per cent. According to the railways, 11 Delhi-bound trains were delayed by up to four hours on Sunday due to foggy conditions. The weather office predicted mainly clear sky, dense to very dense fog and cold day conditions for January 22. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at 6 pm was recorded at 344, which is in the 'very poor' category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

There will be no flight arrivals or departures at the Delhi airport from 10.20 am to 12.45 pm every day till January 26 in connection with the Republic Day preparations and celebrations, according to an official. Earlier, the curbs were in place only for non-scheduled flights with certain exceptions. Cold weather conditions persist in North India; Bathinda, Sirsa coldest

Cold weather conditions continued to persist in Punjab and Haryana, with Bathinda and Sirsa being the coldest places in the two states on Friday. According to the Meteorological Department here, Bathinda in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius while Sirsa in Haryana recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius. Several other parts of the two states were also under the grip of cold weather and experienced dense fog in the morning. In Punjab, Amritsar, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala and Pathankot recorded respective minimums of 6.8 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees Celsius, 6.8 degrees Celsius, 7.7 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, Bhiwani and Fatehabad reeled under severe cold recording respective minimum temperatures of 4.3 degrees Celsius and 4.6 degrees Celsius. Fog affects visibility, rail traffic in parts of north, northeast India

A layer of fog lowered visibility to zero metres at several places in north and northeast India, affecting rail traffic, officials said. Satellite imagery showed some reduction in fog over Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. However, dense' to very dense' fog prevailed in parts of Punjab, Haryana, west Rajasthan, Bihar, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Assam. A spokesperson for the Indian Railways said 18 trains arriving in Delhi were delayed by up to six hours due to foggy weather. At 5:30 am, visibility levels stood at 25 metres in Patiala, Amritsar, Ambala, Hisar, Bikaner and Purnia and 50 metres in Churu, Ganganagar, Jhansi, Ranchi, Paradip and Lakhimpur.
