The Sikkim High Court has granted a stay on about Rs 628 crore GST demand order against Delta Corp, the casino and online gaming company said in a regulatory filing on Sunday. The government has raised a total GST demand of around Rs 23,000 crore against the company till date which includes recovery of the shortfall of taxes for casino and online gaming business of the Delta Corp group. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Hyderabad on September 22 issued three demand notices against the company including a demand of over Rs 628 crore for the shortfall of tax paid by Delta Corp Limited in relation to Casino Deltin Denzong based out of Sikkim. "Pursuant to a writ petition filed by the Company before the Hon'ble High Court of Sikkim challenging the above demand, the Hon'ble High Court has by its order dated 20th October 2023 ordered status quo to be maintained in respect of the demand until the date of next hearing," Delta Corp said in the filing. Two entities -- Bofa Securities Europe and Societe Generale -- on Monday offloaded shares of Delta Corp Ltd for Rs 56 crore through open market transactions. Following the sale, shares of Delta Corp tumbled 8.18 per cent to close at Rs 128.55 apiece on the NSE. According to the bulk deal data available with the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bofa Securities Europe SA sold 30.08 lakh shares and Societe Generale disposed of 13.58 lakh shares of Delta Corp Ltd. The shares were offloaded in the price range of Rs 127.97-128.48 apiece, taking the combined transaction value to Rs 55.94 crore. Meanwhile, Delta Corp said on Saturday its subsidiary, Deltatech Gaming Ltd, received a Goods and Services Tax (GST) notice for payment of Rs 6,384 crore, owing to tax shortfall taking the overall tax demand on the firm to over Rs 23,000 crore.
Shares of Delta Corp plunged nearly 9 per cent on Monday after the company received a GST notice for short payment of tax to the tune of Rs 6,384 crore. The stock tanked 8.79 per cent to settle at Rs 127.70 apiece on the BSE. During the day, it fell 11 per cent to Rs 124.60 -- its 52-week low. On the NSE, it plummeted 8.17 per cent to end at Rs 128.55 per piece. On the volume front, 28.26 lakh shares of the company were traded on the BSE and over 2.93 crore shares were traded on the NSE during the day. In another blow to the company, Delta Corp has received a GST notice for short payment of tax to the tune of Rs 6,384 crore, taking the overall tax demand on the firm to over Rs 23,000 crore.
