The Department of Posts will issue rules and regulations under the Post Office Act 2023 in the next six months, a top official of the department said on Thursday. While speaking on the sidelines of Department of Posts Officers' Conclave 2024, Secretary Vandita Kaul told PTI that the new rules will bring transformation in the postal services with the use of modern technologies. "We are now going to issue rules and regulations within six months. The subordinate legislation has to come out. This (India Post Office Act 2023) law has simplified what was a very old archaic law which was relevant at its time, but not now," she said. Department of Posts is planning to take the total number of Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras to 1,000 from the existing 700 by the end of the year, a senior official said on Monday. India Post Delhi Chief Post Master General Manju Kumari told reporters that 700 Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras have been set up across India to date, including 30 in the Delhi circle. She said, "1,000 Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras will be set up by the end of the year. We have opened 30 centres in the Delhi circle and within three months 140 customers have started using the service. We expect it to grow further." Dakghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs) are helping small businesses in exporting even the smallest items from any part of the country, a senior postal official said here on Thursday. Speaking at a session organised by the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce, Post Master General of West Bengal circle Anil Kumar said the scheme is helping small businesses to contribute to the country's exports. "The Department of Post is at present catering to 213 countries, and is doing e-commerce with 38 countries in the Asia Pacific region," he said. He said the department has a network of 60,000 post offices in India, of which 12,000 are in West Bengal. "This network is being used to facilitate exports of all types of goods, including 'gangajal'," he said. The government is also working on a comprehensive plan to make the postal network useful for the 'one district one product' scheme, Kumar said.
