Delhi Metro has introduced a QR code-based ticketing facility through the Paytm app across all lines, officials said on Thursday. This expansion of the innovative service was inaugurated by Vikas Kumar, the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), according to an official statement. With this new feature, commuters can now get the mobile QR ticket on the Paytm app under the Delhi Metro' section, by simply entering the station of entry and destination on the day of the journey, it added. Passengers can just hold their smartphone in front of the QR code scanner of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at both entry and exit stations to proceed with the journey. The app was so far only available in English, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. This launch comes as a testament to DMRC's commitment to the Digital India initiative, aimed at providing government services electronically with improved online infrastructure and inclusivity, it said. Starting Wednesday, Delhi Metro is running two trains with their coaches thematically decorated to promote 'Travel for LiFE' campaign, helmed by the Ministry of Tourism. The global launch of 'Travel for LiFE', a sectoral programme under 'Mission LiFE' (Lifestyle for Environment), targeted towards the tourism sector took place at an event held at Bharat Mandapam here on September 27 -- World Tourism Day. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on Wednesday joined hands to develop an indigenous communication-based train control (i-CBTC) system, officials said. The Delhi Metro on September 4 registered the highest-ever count of daily passenger journeys -- 71.03 lakh -- surpassing the record it set a few days ago. The corresponding figures on August 29 had stood at 69.94 lakh. Journey or line utilisation is calculated by the number of corridors passengers use to reach their destinations. "The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) broke its own highest passenger journey record made last week by registering an unprecedented 71.03 lakh passenger journeys on Monday, marking the highest-ever daily passenger journeys on the Delhi Metro," a senior official said. Prior to August 29, the highest recorded passenger journey count stood at 68.16 lakh on August 28. The milestone, achieved on Monday, comes after a period of challenges that reflects the resilience and trust of the Delhi NCR citizens in the world-class transportation system provided by DMRC, he said.
Delhi Metro on Friday started a special drive to stop entry of male passengers into coaches reserved for women and issued penalties to violators. The drive may be extended beyond the stipulated ten days, based on the outcomes achieved, a senior official said. "Delhi Metro today started a special drive to stop the entry of male passengers in the coaches reserved for ladies. The drive will be jointly conducted by DMRC, CISF & DMRP from 6 pm to 10 pm on all lines of the network for the next 10 days till 10th September, 2023. #DelhiMetro," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on 'X'. The quantum of penalty for a male passenger who enters a women-only coach is Rs 250, the official said. "This drive may be extended further after the first 10 days based on the outcome achieved. Delhi Metro will be running around 106 extra train trips on its corridors on Wednesday to facilitate passengers on the festival of Raksha Bandhan, officials said. Additional Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) personnel will also be deployed at stations to cater to the extra rush of commuters by operating additional ticket counters, they said on Tuesday. If required, additional standby trains will also be kept for induction into services to clear the rush, officials said. The first phase of Odisha's proposed metro rail project will cover a distance of around 26 km and have 20 stations, according to the DPR submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sanctioned the project on April 1, 2023. The first phase will connect Bhubaneswar Airport and Trishulia in Cuttack. The DMRC submitted the detailed project report (DPR) to Chief Secretary P K Jena on Wednesday, officials said. The DPR was completed after conducting traffic survey, geo-technical investigation, topographic survey, environmental and social impact assessments, they said. The project will be later extended to Khurda, Puri and other areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city, the officials said.

This work shall be completed within a year of award of tender and these locations shall be finalised in due course according to internal assessments, they said.
