The All India Institute of Medical Sciences here has urged the DMRC to augment the feeder bus service to the hospital campus to address the commuting challenges faced by patients, attendants, and staff. Around 40-50 thousand individuals visit AIIMS daily and a majority of them rely on Delhi Metro services. The need for convenient transportation from the metro stations to the AIIMS campus has become evident, AIIMS Director Dr Srinivas said. In a letter to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Vikas Kumar, Srinivas said, at present, the hospital is accessible from the AIIMS Metro Station and South Extension Metro Station, both of which are significant entry points for visitors. However, the AIIMS campus is distributed across three different land parcels, namely Masjid Moth, Ansari Nagar, and Raj Nagar. As a result, those arriving via Delhi Metro are faced with a considerable distance to walk or the challenge of finding alternative modes of transport like autorickshaws
A traders' body on Monday said it has appealed to the DMRC, urging it to take back its decision to allow commuters to carry two sealed liquor bottles in Delhi Metro trains. The Chamber of Trade and Industry, in a statement, alleged that anti-social activities will increase if liquor is permitted to be carried inside trains and said that a delegation of the traders' body will meet DMRC chief Vikas Kumar to discuss the issue. "The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has given permission to carry two sealed bottles of liquor (per person) in the Metro. Now there is an opposition to it. The CTI has written a letter to DMRC's Managing Director, Vikas Kumar (on this matter), the statement said. CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal has requested that the DMRC should "withdraw its decision", alleging that anti-social activities can increase if carrying of a liquor bottle in the metro is allowed. Within a month of DMRC's decision to allow commuters to carry two sealed liquor bottles in Delhi Metro trains, the Excise department of city government has red-flagged the relaxation and sought it to be changed for being contrary to the law. As per the Excise Act, only one sealed bottle of liquor like rum, vodka and whisky could be carried from one state to another, said a senior Excise department officer. The Metro trains ferry commuters between Delhi and NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad and allowing two sealed bottles to be carried by any person will be in violation of the Act, the officer added. Also, liquor can not be sold to any person less than 25 years of age in Delhi while in cities like Gurugram liquor can be sold to anyone 18 years. The relaxation means any underage person can bring liquor from other places through Metro trains and consume it in Delhi," the officer said. The officer said that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been sent a notic

Delhi Metro commuters landing in Uttar Pradesh's Noida with sealed liquor bottles may land in trouble, cautioned excise officials here on Saturday. The word of caution comes a day after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced permitting commuters to carry up to two sealed bottles of liquor on its network. Besides Delhi, DMRC's metro rail network expands to nearby cities like Gurgaon and Faridabad in Haryana, and Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, the excise rules ban the import of liquor from outside the state, citing loss to the state government's revenue. Officials said the current rule permits import of only one unsealed bottle from adjoining Delhi or Haryana, whether by metro or road. "Although the Delhi Metro has allowed commuters to carry two sealed bottles of liquor, but rules of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department will apply in UP's territories, irrespective of any changes in Delhi," Noida District Excise Officer Subodh Srivastava told PTI.
