The Delhi government has initiated a special audit of 12 DU colleges fully funded by it to investigate allegations of financial irregularities flagged by Chief Minister Atishi. The Directorate of Audit has assigned an eight-member team to conduct the special audit after a status report was submitted by a high-level committee. In an order issued last week, the Audit department directed the secretary of Directorate of Higher Education to instruct the colleges to make all necessary records available to the audit team. "I am directed to convey the approval of Competent Authority for conducting a Special Audit on the examination of issues related to 12 colleges (fully funded by the Delhi Government) affiliated with the University of Delhi, as per the status Report of the High Level Committee," read the order dated September 27. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct a retest for over 1000 candidates of CUET UG on July 19. The NTA had on July 7 released the provisional answer key of Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG 2024 and announced that it will conduct a retest for CUET UG candidates between July 15 and 19 if any grievance raised by students about the conduct of the exam is found to be correct. While the agency notified the retest schedule on Sunday, it remained silent on the declaration of the result which has already been delayed by over two weeks with the final answer key not yet notified. The delay in CUET-UG results comes amid a raging row over alleged irregularities in competitive exams, including NEET and NET. The Delhi University on Friday formed a committee comprising its executive council members to look into alleged "financial irregularities" in 12 Delhi government-funded colleges, according to a statement. The development comes days after Delhi Education Minister Atishi in a letter to the Centre had flagged "irregularities and procedural lapses involving hundreds of crores of rupees from the public exchequer" in these colleges. The committee will start its work from December 16 and has been asked to submit its report within 15 days, according to the statement issued by the university after a meeting of its executive council (EC) on Friday. The report will then be sent to the Union education ministry and the Delhi government, it said and added that the decision to form the committee was passed unanimously in the EC's meeting. The move comes after the higher education regulator observed that the websites of several universities lack not only in providing basic minimum information but many of these are not functional and updated. The Delhi High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of security breaches at college festivals and demanded action by authorities after several female Delhi University students alleged that they were secretly filmed while changing in an IIT-Delhi washroom for a fashion show at the institute's fest. A bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, in an order passed on Monday, stated it was imperative that adequate security measures are put in place to allow students to attend such events without any impending fear of experiencing such acts of violation. The court, which earlier also dealt with the incident of alleged sexual harassment of girl students during a cultural festival at the all-women Gargi College of Delhi University in February 2020, observed that unfortunately it has been confronted with several cases of student harassment during such festivals. A fire broke out at the Lady Hardinge Medical College in central Delhi on Friday, officials said. No one was injured in the incident, the fire officials said. The fire broke out in the Anatomy Department on the first floor of the Lady Hardinge Medical College. A call regarding the blaze was received around 2:30 pm and seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said. The fire has been doused, they said.

Delhi University on Monday constituted a five-member committee to inquire into alleged harassment of Indraprastha College for Women students during a cultural festival last week. The committee will be headed by Prakash Singh, director of South Delhi Campus, and has been asked to submit its report within a week, a notification issued by Delhi University Registrar Vikas Gupta stated. Students at Indraprastha College for Women alleged that some men scaled the walls of the college during a fest last week and "harassed several students". "The Competent Authority has constituted the committee to inquire into the incident that happened on 29th March, 2023 in the Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi during the college cultural festival," the registrar said. The committee was also asked to suggest measures to curb such incidents in future. The Delhi University has directed its colleges to take "immediate" steps to fill vacant posts of assistant professors. In a letter to principals on Monday, the university said the college should ensure that all the sanctioned posts are filled up in line with the reservation roster approved by the university. The colleges are requested to "take immediate necessary steps in filling up the vacant posts of Assistant Professors in various subjects/disciplines in your College/Institution against the sanctioned strength." The varsity has requested to fill the posts following due procedures envisaged under the ordinances of the University and considering all eligibility criteria and qualifications laid down. The Delhi University has started a scheme of fee waiver for students from an economically weak background to provide the benefits of equity, access and quality with excellence to everyone, an official said on Wednesday. The waiver includes all components of the fees paid by the students except the examination fee and the hostel fee. Students from an economically weak background can get up to 100 per cent fee waiver, depending on their family income. A full-time bona fide student studying in the university is eligible to apply for it. December 12 is the last date for applying. "The University of Delhi celebrates diversity and is deeply committed to holistic and inclusive education. Over 30,500 students allotted courses across Delhi University colleges have frozen their seats, while over 23,000 candidates opted for upgradation of seats after the 2nd merit list, a senior varsity official said. Meanwhile, the university has also received 1,008 mid-entry applications. The varsity had given a window from November 5 to 7 for mid-entry for fresh applicants. The total number of students admitted to the university so far has gone beyond 61,500, of the 70,000 undergraduate seats the DU has on offer. More than 15,200 students secured admission in various Delhi University colleges in the second round of seat allocation, a senior varsity official said on Thursday. Of them, 9,439 are those who were allotted seats in the first round of admission and later upgraded to college and course of their preference in the second merit list. "As many as 15,236 students who were allotted seats in the second list have confirmed their seats and submitted the fees," DU Dean of Admission Haneet Gandhi told PTI. The admission to the second round of seats allocation is underway. The university began the admission process for over 70,000 seats in September.
