K'taka urges Centre to increase employment days to 150 under MGNREGS

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Monday said the state government has appealed to the Centre to increase the employment days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) from 100 days to 150 days in view of severe drought prevailing in the state. Addressing reporters, Gowda said the Central team recently visited the state to inspect the drought situation. The state government has demanded that the Union government should release approximately Rs 475 crore, which has not been paid to the labourers who were employed under the MGNREGS. Those who work as labourers are leading their lives in extreme poverty, the minister said, and added that we will be putting them in further distress by not paying them. Regarding increasing the employment days in the distress year, Gowda said there is a provision in the law that a labourer should get a job for 150 days instead of 100 days during drought. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami returned here on Saturday from his five-day UK visit and said the push to investments in the state will create fresh employment opportunities for the local youth. "We inked MoUs for investments worth more than Rs 12,500 crore with international firms during the visit. A large number of investors, which also include NRIs, are keen to invest in the state. Candidates getting selected for jobs and deployed in other states as per the job profile should learn the local language to be able to provide better services, Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said here on Tuesday. Sitharaman, after handing over orders to successful candidates at the Rozgar Mela, encouraged more candidates to apply for jobs in public sector undertakings located in Tamil Nadu. Bihar govt announces new scheme for unemployed minority community youths

The Bihar government on Monday announced the launch of 'Mukhyamantri Alpsankhyak Udyami Yojna' for unemployed youths from the minority community. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar here following a proposal by the industry department. Talking to reporters, S. Siddhartha, additional chief secretary (cabinet secretariat), said, "With an aim to promote industrial development and generate employment among unemployed minority youths, the cabinet decided to launch 'Mukhyamantri Alpsankhyak (minority) Udyami Yojna (MAUY). The scheme will be implemented on almost similar lines of the existing Mukhyamantri SC/ST/EBC Udyami Yojana, Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyami Yojna (MMUY) and the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana (MYUY)." Assam CM rolls out financial aid scheme to help youths set up business

In a move to fuel growth through self-employment, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday launched a scheme to help youths set up their own ventures. At a function here, Sarma rolled out the Chief Minister's Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan 2023. He also launched a registration portal for the scheme. Under the programme, financial aid will be given to two lakh youths for creating a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said, "The scheme has been designed to create self-employment avenues to enable the youths to fuel development of the state. It has the potential to strengthen rural economy."
