Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said his government was working on providing ten lakh jobs. In a video message for a 'Rozgar Mela' (employment fair) organized by the Gujarat government here, he also said that the number of government jobs for the youth will rise. This kind of Rozgar Melas will continue to be organised at the national and state levels in the coming months," the prime minister said. "The Central government is working on providing ten lakh jobs, the states and Union territories are also getting associated with the campaign. The number of government jobs given to the youth will rise significantly, he said.

'Rozgar Mela': PM Modi to launch recruitment drive for 1 mn jobs on Oct 22

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch 'Rozgar Mela', a drive to recruit 10 lakh people, on October 22 via video-conference and appointment letters will be given to 75,000 candidates during the ceremony, the PMO said on Thursday. The PMO said this will be a significant step forward towards fulfilling the continuous commitment of the prime minister to providing job opportunities for the youth and ensuring welfare of citizens. According to Modi's directions, all ministries and departments are working towards filling up existing vacancies against sanctioned posts in a "mission mode", the statement from the Prime Minister's Office said. The new recruits, selected from across the country, will join 38 ministries or departments of the Government of India. HCL Technologies on Wednesday weighed into the issue of moonlighting, that has created quite a stir in the industry, and said while it does not approve of dual employment, the issue is not a major one within the company. Put simply, moonlighting refers to employees taking up side gigs to work on more than one job at a time. "Dual employment while working for HCL Tech...we do not approve of that. Everybody who signs up to work for HCL Tech is signing up employment contract which requires exclusivity. Rs 13.5-trn annual investment needed for full employment in India: Study

The government needs to enact a 'Right to Work' legislation and invest at least 5 per cent of GDP, that is Rs 13.52 lakh crore, per year to ensure full employment in the country, as per a study by the People's Commission on Employment and Unemployment. The People's Commission on Employment and Unemployment, set up by Desh Bachao Abhiyan, released its study 'Right to Work: Feasible and Indispensable for India to be a truly Civilized and Democratic Nation' on Tuesday. The report stated that full employment cannot be achieved through a piecemeal approach as it requires drastic changes in the legal, socio-political and economic aspects. It suggested that the government should enact a 'Right to Work' law to ensure decent livelihood for citizens. It stated that creating employment for 21.8 crore people needs investment of Rs 13.52 lakh crore per annum or 5 per of the GDP (gross domestic product).
