Open access solar capacity grows 21% to 907 MW in Sept quarter: Mercom

The country recorded a 20.6 per cent rise in new installations of open access solar capacity to 907 MW in the September quarter, according to Mercom India. India had added 752 MW (Mega Watt) of open access solar capacities in the year-ago period, the research firm said in its 'Q3 2023 Solar Open Access Market Report'. On a quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) basis, the capacity addition was 36 per cent higher than the 666 MW in the April-June quarter, the report said on Monday. As of September 2023, the country's cumulative installed open access solar capacity was 11 GW (Giga Watt). Under the open access model, an individual or a company can set up a green energy plant and sell the clean power generated in the open market to discoms or private consumers. "The drop in solar project costs attracted consumer attention this quarter. Energy exchange IEX to acquire 10% stake in Enviro Enablers India

Energy exchange IEX on Friday said it will acquire a 10 per cent stake in Enviro Enablers India Private Limited. The association will fulfil IEX's commitment towards sustainability and decarbonisation in line with India's net zero commitments, Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) said in a BSE filing. "IEX entered into a share subscription agreement and shareholders' agreement with Enviro Enablers India Private Limited (EEIPL) to acquire a 10 per cent stake in the company through compulsory convertible preference shares (CCPS)," it said. This platform will catalyse solutions for compliant waste management, including segregation, processing, recycling, tracking, tracing, and valorization of waste fractions, all while uplifting informal waste pickers, SN Goel, Chairman and Managing Director of IEX, said. "This strategic alliance sets the stage for a transformative journey towards sustainability and circularity within India's energy landscape," Govindaswamy Mahesh Babu of EEIPL said.

Indian Energy Exchange's overall trade volume grew to 9,147 MU in Sept

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) logged around 13 per cent growth in overall trade volume to 9,147 million units (MU) in September. It reported an overall trade volume of 8,116 MU in the year-ago period, an IEX statement said on Wednesday. IEX achieved 9,147 MU overall volume, including green market trade of 230 MU, 5.15 lakh RECs (Renewable energy certificates, equivalent to 515 MU) and 1.06 lakh ESCerts (energy saving certificates, equivalent to 106 MU). According to the statement, the overall volume traded during the month increased 13 per cent on a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis. The demand momentum witnessed in August 2023 continued in September 2023, it stated. For the second quarter of the fiscal year 2023 (July-September), the IEX achieved 26,533 MU, resulting in 15 per cent YoY growth across market segments. Jindal SAW-Hunting Energy JV eyes M East, Africa to supply OCTG from India

Jindal Hunting Energy Services Ltd (JHESL) is looking to export oil country tubular goods from its plant located at Nashik in Maharashtra. Piping products used in oil and gas production are referred as oil country tubular goods (OCTG). JHESL is a 51:49 per cent joint venture (JV) company between US-based Hunting Energy Services and domestic pipes maker Jindal SAW. On September 18, the JV inaugurated a plant with an annual capacity of 70,000 metric tonnes, which has been set up at a cost of USD 25 million to manufacture and supply pipes and tubes with premium connections to OCTG market in oil and gas sector. JHESL will first cater to the domestic market and continue to explore markets like Middle East and Africa, Neeraj Kumar, Group Chief Executive Officer and Whole-Time Director, Jindal SAW Ltd, told PTI in an interaction. Energy management and automation firm Schneider Electric on Friday said it has made an equity investment in Biofuels Junction. The investment has been made through Schneider Electric Energy Access (SEEAA), Schneider Electric said in a statement. SEEAA is the Asia-focused clean energy fund, co-funded by Norfund, EDFI MC and Amundi, it added. "Schneider Electric...has made an equity investment in Biofuels Junction. Through this collaboration, Schneider Electric is empowering Biofuels Junction in their business objective of preventing stubble burning of agricultural waste," it said. The company did not disclose the financial details of the deal. India's per capita coal emissions surged by 29% in 7 years: Analysis

India saw a 29 per cent increase in per capita coal emissions in 2022 as compared to 2015, while G20 per capita coal emissions rose by about 9 per cent from 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2015 to 1.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2022, according to a new analysis by global energy think tank 'Ember'. The annual report on 'Changes in per capita coal power emissions of G20 countries' also found that 12 out of 20 G20 economies saw declining per capita coal emissions since 2015. "However, G20 per capita coal emissions slightly increased by about 9 per cent from 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2015 to 1.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2022.
