Premier League match official David Coote was fired on Monday after his position was deemed untenable by English soccer's referees body following an investigation into his conduct. The Professional Game Match Officials Limited suspended Coote on Nov. 12 while it looked into a video, published by The Sun newspaper, that circulated of him making offensive comments to friends about former Liverpool manager Jrgen Klopp. Since then, UEFA also launched an investigation into Coote following a video, again published by The Sun, allegedly showing him using cocaine during the European Championship this year. Coote is also being investigated by the Football Association following allegations that he discussed with a fan the possibility of giving a yellow card to a player in a match. Coote denies any wrongdoing, according to The Sun. The PGMOL issued a statement saying Coote's employment has been terminated with immediate effect following the conclusion of its investigation. His actions were f
West Ham players showed their support for seriously injured teammate Michail Antonio before and during their Premier League home win against Wolverhampton, two days after his car crash. The players warmed up in Antonio 9 jerseys and walked on to the field in tops adorning his name. The club will put the walk-out tops up for auction along with every match jersey worn against Wolves, with the proceeds going to medical charities and matched by the club's board. West Ham fans stood in London Stadium and applauded for Antonio in the ninth, and when captain Jarrod Bowen scored the 2-1 winner in the second half, he approached supporters behind the goal carrying an Antonio jersey. To share that moment, he's not here with us but I'm sure (Antonio) was watching and the fans, you heard them, Bowen told broadcaster Sky Sports. An emotional couple of days. Before the game, Bowen said, Everyone loves Mic, he is a big character. He is not just a teammate, he is a friend and has been for many yea
Arsenal could only muster another goal from a corner in a 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday as Mikel Arteta's title-chasing team dropped two points in its bid to reel in Premier League leader Liverpool. William Saliba one of two scorers from corners in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday repeated the trick in the 52nd minute against Fulham to earn his team a point at Craven Cottage. Raul Jimenez put Fulham ahead in the 11th. It helped Arsenal trim the gap to Liverpool to six points but will go down as a wasted opportunity, with the leaders inactive this round after the Merseyside derby against Everton was postponed on Saturday because of stormy weather. Chelsea has the chance to move four points behind Liverpool if it can beat Tottenham away in another London derby later Sunday. Bukayo Saka had what looked like being a winning goal for Arsenal ruled out for offside against Gabriel Martinelli in the 88th. There were late goals in the other two early matches, ...

The Red Devils will aim to restart their trophy hunt and secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Sunday
Tottenham scored three goals in eight minutes in a 4-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday. Spurs had trailed to Mohammed Kudus' 18th minute goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but powered back with a brilliant second-half performance. Dejan Kulusevski leveled the game in the 36th and after the break the home team took control. Yves Bissouma struck in the 52nd before and Alphonse Areola scored own goal three minutes later. Son Heung-min added a fourth in the hour mark. West Ham was reduced to 10 men in the 86th when Kudus was sent off for pushing Micky van de Ven in an angry confrontation.
Arsenal blew the chance to go top of the English Premier League after a shock 2-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday. In one of the biggest upsets of the burgeoning season, 10-man Arsenal lost for the time. Mikel Arteta's team finished runner-up in the last two years and could have leapfrogged leader Liverpool and defending champion City in second place with a win at Bournemouth. But Arsenal's chances were hit after William Saliba was sent off in the first half at Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth took full advantage with Ryan Christie scoring in the 70th minute and Justin Kluivert converting a penalty nine minutes later. Third-placed Arsenal is a point behind Liverpool and level with City, having played a game more than its rivals, who are both in action on Sunday. Meanwhile, Manchester United picked up only its third league win by beating Brentford 2-1. Fourth-placed Aston Villa tightened up the top of the standings by moving to within a point of Liverpool and level with Arsenal after
The defending champions, Manchester City, will look to close the gap with table-toppers Liverpool as Premier League action resumes after the international break
Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has dropped out of the squad for Germany's Nations League games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands. The German soccer federation said Sunday that Havertz withdrew because of a left knee problem. Havertz scored in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday and played the full game. Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann called up Mainz forward Jonathan Burkardt for the games in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday and in Munich against the Dutch three days later. Nagelsmann was already without Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala and West Ham's Niclas Fllkrug with hip and ankle problems, respectively, meaning he will need to reshuffle his attack, with Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Stuttgart's Deniz Undav likely to feature. The 24-year-old Burkardt, who scored twice for Mainz at St. Pauli in the Bundesliga on Saturday, is the third new call-up to Nagelsmann's squad after Borussia Mnchengladbach forward Tim Kleindienst and Stuttgar
Manchester United's winless run in all competitions extended to five games after a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, leaving manager Erik ten Hag's position uncertain heading into a two-week international break. Ten Hag arrived at Villa Park under huge pressure with United having lost three of its six league games and the club's minority owner, Jim Ratcliffe, failing to say he had faith in the Dutch coach when asked specifically on Friday. However creditable gaining a point at Villa is, it might still not be enough for Ten Hag especially with United's new leadership having two weeks to weigh up his future before the team's next game. United is in 14th place in the 20-team league. Playing in front of Ratcliffe and the rest of United's hierarchy, the visitors came closest to scoring when Bruno Fernandes struck a free kick against the crossbar in the 68th. We are all on board, together, on one page, Ten Hag said of his relationship with the club's leadership. W
Manchester City fans hung a giant banner inside Etihad Stadium on Saturday with a special message for Pep Guardiola ahead of their Premier League game against Fulham. In the manager's native Catalan language, the banner read Pep Guardiola Volem Que Et Quedis!' translating to We want you to stay!" Guardiola's contract expires at the end of the season and he has not indicated if he will extend his stay, having joined in 2016. On Friday, he offered to pay for the gesture when he learned that fans had raised a reported 1,000 pounds ($1,300) to create the banner. I don't want them to spend money for that reason but, what can I say? Thank you so much," he said. Guardiola has overseen an unprecedented period of success since taking over at City, including winning a record four straight English league titles. City has been crowned champion six out of the last seven years and won the treble including the Champions League and FA Cup in 2023. In total, Guardiola has won 15 major trophies
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson will miss a few weeks after he was injured and substituted in Saturday's English Premier League match against Crystal Palace. Alisson appeared to hurt his hamstring when clearing the ball in the second half at Selhurst Park and had to leave the field in the 79th minute. Liverpool manager Arne Slot expected him to miss Brazil's World Cup qualifiers and Liverpool's next game, at least. What we do know is that if a player walks off like he did, that normally means that he is not in the Brazil squad and I don't expect him to be in the team in the first game we play after (the international break)," Slot said. It is going to take a few weeks I assume for him to be back. I think it is (his hamstring). Brazil has World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Peru during the upcoming international break. Alisson limped off to be replaced by Vitezslav Jaros. Alisson has only recently returned after a muscle injury and was holding the back of his right leg on the ...
Mohamad Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have entered the final months of their contracts at Liverpool and can leave as free agents at the end of the season. Yet, manager Arne Slot still found time to joke about the situation on Friday when quizzed about their futures. It's the same boring answer as always and I could really understand if you ask me this once every two weeks but if you ask me this after two or three days again then you still get the same answer and people feel that I'm boring them, Slot told reporters at his media conference ahead of Saturday's game against Crystal Palace. So, try it after the international break again. Questions about Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold will only grow as the season goes on and their contracts run down. All three will be able to talk to potential suitors outside of England from January. All three are Liverpool icons given their roles in leading the Merseyside club to its first league title in 30 years in 2020 and
It feels like Groundhog Day for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag. Another season has hit crisis point after only a few games. Perhaps that's why the United manager was so dismissive of the renewed pressure on him after last week's humbling 3-0 loss to Tottenham. Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about because I experienced it so often with my teams during seasons that you are facing those problems, he said this week. He is right. United's record of three losses after six English Premier League games is in keeping with his two previous campaigns at Old Trafford. In 2022, he lost his opening two and three of the first seven. In 2023 it was even worse, as United lost three of five at the start. Both of those seasons ended with a trophy, but the feel-good factor provided by the most recent silverware May's FA Cup triumph against Manchester City - has long evaporated in the face of the likelihood that United's 11-year wait for the league title is set to go on.
