Windies' Alzarri Joseph suspended after on-field argument with his captain

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been suspended for two matches by Cricket West Indies over his very public disagreement with captain Shai Hope over field placements during a one-day international against England. While West Indies was bowling during the match Wednesday which the Caribbean side won by eight wickets to clinch the three-match series, Joseph left the field in a remarkable protest over the field set by Hope during one of the fast bowler's overs. Joseph and Hope engaged in a lengthy argument before the fourth over which was bowled by Joseph and had to be urged by the umpires to resume play. After a ball was played away on the off side during the over, Joseph remonstrated angrily with Hope and when the over ended he walked from the field, returning after a short break. On Thursday, Cricket West Indies said in a statement Joseph's conduct fell short of CWI's standards of professionalism. "Alzarri's behavior did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds

Sri Lanka beat England by 8 wickets in third Test, their fourth in England

Sri Lanka earned their only fourth Test victory on English soil after an unbeaten century by opener Pathum Nissanka helped the visitors secure an eight-wicket win in the third and final match of the series against England at The Oval here on Monday. England won the series 2-1 but missed out on a second clean sweep of its international summer, having defeated the West Indies 3-0 in July. Starting Day 4 on 94-1 and requiring 125 more runs to win, the Sri Lankans needed barely two hours to complete the job in clinical fashion. The platform was built on Sunday when they skittled England for 156 in just 34 overs and were given a victory target of 219. Nissanka underpinned the chase with his second test hundred, reaching three figures in 107 balls and finishing 127 not out as Sri Lanka got to 219 in 40.3 overs. The diminutive opener, who struck 13 fours and two sixes, spread his arms wide and soaked in the applause inside a half-full ground after passing 100, then kissed his bat and look

Ben Stokes smashed the fastest test 50 by an Englishman and Mark Wood took 5-40 with blistering pace as England beat West Indies by 10 wickets on the third day of the third test to sweep the series 3-0. The England captain needed only 24 deliveries Sunday to reach his half-century. He finished on 57 off 28 balls and got the winning runs with a six off Kraigg Brathwaite. Ben Duckett contributed a 16-ball 25. The opening pair scored at a run rate of almost 12 to hit 87-0 in 7.2 overs in England's second innings. Regular opener Zak Crawley fractured his little finger in the field, giving Stokes the opportunity to promote himself to opener and entertain the Edgbaston crowd. West Indies resumed Sunday on 33-2 but collapsed against Wood. He took his wickets in a ferocious spell after lunch, dismissing Josh Da Silva, Alzarri Joseph, Kavem Hodge, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph in the space of 21 dramatic deliveries. West Indies avoids 2-day test defeat against England, trails by 171 runs

Soon-to-retire James Anderson dismissed West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite for the very last time as England took total control of the first test at Lord's though the visitors managed to avoid a two-day defeat. West Indies was 79-6 in its second innings at stumps Thursday, still trailing England by 171 runs. Joshua Da Silva is 8 not out. England had resumed the second day on 189-3 and was all out at an early tea for 371, a commanding innings lead of 250. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith scored 70 on his test debut. The 23-year-old, who leapfrogged 100-cap veteran Jonny Bairstow and Surrey teammate Ben Foakes to get the nod in a new-look XI, hit eight fours and two powerful sixes in an eye-catching cameo that justified the selection panel's leap of faith. Opener Zak Crawley top-scored with 76, Joe Root was out for 68, and Ollie Pope (57) and Harry Brook (50) also contributed half centuries. Pacer Jayden Seales took 4-77, with two wickets each for Jason Holder and spinner Gudakesh Motie.

The West Indies held its nerve in the last over to beat world champion England and win their Twenty20 series 3-2. The West Indies was still favored going into the last over, but needed nine runs. West Indies made 133-6 and won by four wickets with four balls to spare. The home side also won the one-day international series 2-1. Hope led the West Indies chase with a run-a-ball 43 not out. WI vs ENG: Salt's second T20 hundred levels series for England in Caribbean

World champion England set up a Twenty20 series-deciding match with the West Indies after crushing the fourth game by 75 runs. A second consecutive century by opener Phil Salt from a flying start with captain Jos Buttler set up England's highest T20 score of 267-3 on Tuesday. The West Indies stayed with the run rate required but couldn't stop leaking wickets and was all out for 192 in the 16th over. "A fantastic win," Buttler said. "You don't play in too many of those games. It was like being at the Hong Kong Sixes. Great to be going into the last game of the tour at 2-2." The fifth and final match is on Thursday at the same Brian Lara Stadium. Salt and Buttler racked up 117 runs in 9.5 overs. Buttler was caught on the boundary for a 29-ball 55. Salt was on 61 and accelerated even more, reaching a 48-ball hundred, and becoming the first Englishman to score two T20 centuries. WI vs ENG: Hope's unbeaten 109 help West Indies chase down 326 in 1st ODI

Shai Hope's century and Romario Shepherd's speedy 48 powered West Indies to a four-wicket victory in the series-opening ODI as England's hopes of rebuilding after its disastrous Cricket World Cup got off to a false start in Antigua on Sunday. England scored an impressive 325 all out in 50 overs at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium but captain Jos Buttler made his fifth single-figure score in eight one-day internationals after being dismissed for three off 13 balls. The total looked to be enough as West Indies was reduced to 213-5 in the 39th over but Hope's unbeaten 109 off 83 balls and Shepherd's 28-ball 48 underpinned a remarkable home triumph with 326-6 in 48.5 overs. Hope's three sixes in four balls off the expensive Sam Curran, who cost 98 in 9.5 wicketless overs, helped the Windies get over the line. There were positives for England. Harry Brook top-scored with 71 off 72 balls while opener Phil Salt amassed 45 off 28. Curran did better with the bat than ball, hitting 38 off 26, and

West Indies pick two uncapped allrounders for ODIs against England

West Indies picked uncapped allrounders Sherfane Rutherford and Matthew Forde in a 15-man squad to face visiting England in one-day internationals next month. There were also recalls for wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich, who played his only ODI in 2019, and opening batter Kjorn Ottley, who played two ODIs in January 2021. The team led by Shai Hope faces England on Dec. 3 and 6 in Antigua, and on Dec. 9 in Barbados. Allrounder Justin Greaves was injured while Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran were unavailable because they were prioritizing other formats. The West Indies and England then play five T20s. West Indies: Shai Hope (captain), Alick Athanaze, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Kjorn Ottley, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Oshane Thomas.
