Emile Hirsch joins De Niro, Freeman and Lee Jones in 'The Comeback Trail'

Actor Emile Hirsch is set to feature along side Hollywood veterans Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Robert De Niro in comedy "The Comeback Trail". Written and directed by George Gallo, the movie is a remake of the 1980s film of the same name. The story focuses on a film producer, Max (De Niro), who is in debt to a mob boss (Freeman). He casts washed-up, suicidal cowboy/movie star Duke Montana (Jones) in a poorly written Western with the intention of killing him during filming in order to get the insurance money. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hirsch will play the role of a successful film producer James Moore. Josh Posner co-wrote the screenplay for the film. Zach Braff also features in the movie.

James Marsden in talks for 'The Stand' adaptation

"Westworld" star James Marsden is in negotiations to play a lead role in CBS All Access' adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand". The story is set in a world "decimated by a plague and locked in an elemental struggle between good and evil." The novel also features the first appearance of long-running King character Randall Flagg, an embodiment of evil. In "The Stand" he is pitted against 108-year-old Mother Abigail and the survivors of the plague. According to the Hollywood Reporter, if things work out, Marsden will play Stu Redman, who is immune to the virus that wiped out much of the population and becomes a leader of the survivors. "The Fault in Our Stars" director Josh Boone and "Homeland's" Ben Cavell are attached as the creators on the 10-episode series. This is not a first project based on King's 1978 novel. ABC aired a critically-acclaimed and highly watched six-hour miniseries based on the book in 1994. Actor Gary Sinise played the role of Stu Redman in the ABC miniseries.

Jill Soloway replaces Bryan Singer as 'Red Sonja' director

Millennium Films has roped in "Transparent" creator Jill Soloway to write and direct "Red Sonja", after filmmaker Bryan Singer was dropped as helmer of the project in the wake of accusations of sexual assault and misconduct against him. Soloway's Topple Productions partner Andrea Sperling is also coming aboard as a producer. "I can't wait to bring Red Sonja's epic world to life. Exploring this powerful mythology and evolving what it means to be a heroine is an artistic dream come true," Soloway told Deadline. The "Red Sonja" project has been in development for over a decade, dating back to 2008 when Robert Rodriguez announced he was working on a version of the film that would have featured Rose McGowan. However, that version of the movie did not happen and Millennium announced in September 2018 that Singer had been hired to take the film forward. Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor Khan will be the leading lady opposite superstar Aamir Khan in "Laal Singh Chaddha". The film, inspired by Paramount Pictures' Tom Hanks-starrer "Forrest Gump", marks Aamir and Kareena's third collaboration after "3 Idiots" and "Talaash". "Secret Superstar" helmer Advait Chandan is directing the film, while actor Atul Kulkarni is attached as a writer. Rachel Morrison in talks for directorial debut 'Flint Strong'

Rachel Morrison, the Oscar-nominated cinematographer of "Mudbound" and Marvel's "Black Panther", is in negotiations to direct Universal Studios' feature "Flint Strong". The film, based on the Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper-directed boxing documentary "T-Rex", is being produced by Barry Jenkins, who has also penned the script. If finalised, the project would mark Morrison's feature directorial debut, reported Variety. The story follows 17-year-old Claressa "T-Rex" Shields, a Flint Michigan native whose dreams of becoming the first American woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing are realised at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. "Baby Driver" star Eiza Gonzalez is set to share screen space with Peter Dinklage and Rosamund Pike in the thriller "I Care a Lot". The film marks Dinklage's first acting gig post the final season of HBO's epic fantasy drama "Game of Thrones". His role is being kept under wraps. Pike will be essaying the role of Marla Grayson, a highly successful legal guardian with a knack for using the law to her benefit and her clients' detriment. But when she cherry picks her seemingly perfect client, she soon realises looks are deceiving. J Blakeson is directing the film from his own script, reported Variety. Filmmaker JJ Abrams, along with son Henry, is all set to pen a new Spider-Man comic book miniseries. In an interview with The New York Times, the father-son duo revealed Nick Lowe, the editor of the comic, had approached them around 10 years ago but they had only recently started working on the project. "Nick had been pressing me to do a book with him. A year or so ago, I started talking about it with Henry and it sort of happened organically. And that has been the joy of this. "Even though I've been talking to Nick for a long time, weirdly, this feels like it just sort of evolved from the conversations of Henry and I, having ideas that got us excited and Nick being open to the collaboration," Abrams said. The film, to be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernandez, reported Deadline. "The Old Guard" focuses on a small group of immortal soldiers who have been working as mercenaries for centuries. Animator Emily Dean, who worked as a story artist on films like "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" and "The Lego Movie 2", is all set to make her feature directorial debut with Sony Pictures Animations' "Tao". The film, which will be penned by Tonya Kong, is described as a female-driven sci-fi adventure story that is set in China, reported Deadline. The plot details of the film are currently under wraps. The Chinese-Australian animation writer-director, who studied at CalArts before starting her career in Pixar's story department, previously worked in the story department at Warner Bros under Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Actor Harriet Dyer has boarded the star-studded cast of "The Invisible Man" reboot, based on the classic 1897 sci-fi novel by HG Wells. Dyer, best known for shows such as "Love Child" and "The InBetween", joins Elisabeth Moss, Aldis Hodge and Storm Reid in the Universal-Blumhouse production, Deadline reported. Leigh Whannell is directing the film from his own screenplay. He will co-produce alongside Blumhouse. The novel has been adapted for both the big screen and television over the years.
