Situation in Sudan tense; focusing on safety of Indians, says MEA

India on Thursday said the ground situation in Sudan is very "tense" and it is in touch with various countries with a key focus on ensuring the safety of Indians in the violence-hit country. Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Arindam Bagchi said India is keeping a close watch on developments in Sudan. He said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is expected to meet the UN Secretary-General in New York on the situation in Sudan. The safety and security of the Indians is our key focus, Bagchi said. When asked whether India is looking at evacuating the Indians in Sudan, he said some plans are being worked out but it will depend on the ground situation.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on four-nation visit from Apr 21 to 29

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will begin a nine-day trip to Guyana, Panama, Colombia and the Dominican Republic beginning Friday to explore bilateral engagement in new areas. It will be Jaishankar's first visit as the external affairs minister to these countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Jaishankar will first travel to Guyana where he will hold wide-ranging talks with his counterpart Hugh Hilton Todd on further expansion of overall ties between the two countries. During his visit to the country from April 21 to 23, Jaishankar will call on Guyana's leadership and interact with several ministers, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday, announcing the visit. It said the external affairs minister will visit Panama from April 24 to 25, Colombia from April 25 to 27 and his last destination would be the Dominican Republic. Addressing the Indian community in Uganda on Wednesday, Jaishankar spoke about the transformation of the country into a new India. Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar meets Chinese counterpart Qin Gang

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday held bilateral talks with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang with a focus on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The discussions took place on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. "Met Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on sidelines of #G20FMM this afternoon. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday sought External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's intervention for her passport, saying she has been waiting for it for the past three years to take her 80-year-old mother on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
