Haryana Cabinet gives nod to buy 10 more crops at minimum support price

The Haryana Cabinet on Monday gave approval to the proposal of buying 10 more crops at the minimum support price. This came a day after Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced at 'Vijay Shankhnad' rally in Kurukshetra that the state government would buy all crops at MSP. Besides this, he had also announced waiving outstanding canal water irrigation charges. These announcements came ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls due later this year. Addressing the media after chairing a Cabinet meeting here on Monday, CM Saini said the Cabinet has given its nod to the proposal of buying crops at the MSP. The state government is already buying 14 crops at the MSP. Saini said 10 more crops, including 'ragi', soybean, 'jowar', and 'moong', will be bought by the Haryana government at the MSP. This move will boost crop diversification, said the chief minister. With this, the state government will buy a total 24 crops in Haryana at the MSP, he said. Legal guarantee for MSP if INDIA bloc wins in LS polls: Rahul in Bihar

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said his party will accept long-pending demands of farmers in the country and ensure a legal guarantee to minimum support price (MSP) of crops if the INDIA bloc comes to power after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Addressing the 'Kisan Nyay Panchayat', a gathering of farmers, in Bihar's Rohtas, as part of his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', Gandhi claimed that "cultivators are not getting the remunerative prices for their crops". "If the INDIA bloc comes to power after the general elections, we will give a legal guarantee to MSP. Whenever farmers have asked for something from the Congress, it has been given to them. Be it loan waiver or MSP, we have always protected the interests of cultivators and will do so in future," Gandhi said. His comment comes at a time when Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a farmers' body, called for 'Bharat Bandh' on Friday to press the BJP-led central government to accept cultivators' demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum

Pre-Budget meet: Farmers' bodies ask govt to lift export ban on wheat

In a pre-budget consultation with the finance ministry, farmers' organisations on Tuesday asked the government to lift ban on exports of agri items like wheat and restrict import of products that cost below the minimum support price (MSP). They also demanded that the government should focus on increasing domestic output of local oilseeds such as soyabean, mustard, groundnut and sunflower, instead of palm. Imposition of higher taxes on processed foods was another suggestion made by farmers' bodies during the virtual meeting with finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The finance minister chaired her third pre-budget consultation with the experts of agriculture and representatives of the agro processing industry here. In his wish list for the Union Budget 2023-24, Bharat Krishak Samaj Chairman Ajay Vir Jakhar demanded that the government should "not allow import of produce where landing costs are below MSP". He also urged the Centre to focus on human resources development in the farm
