FCI stares at storage space shortage

After two years of smooth functioning due to lower quantity of grain procurement, storage issue might spark at the government owned Food Corporation of India (FCI) once again due to a sharp increase in the target of wheat purchase for rabi harvesting season this year.The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in a statement on February 15 set a target of 33 million for wheat procurement for the marketing season 2017-18 (beginning April 2017), a 33 per cent increase from the previous year's actual procurement of 22.96 million tonnes.
