No movie hall in Bengal is screening 'Kerala Story' as yet: Distributors

Despite the Supreme Court allowing screening of the movie 'The Kerala Story' in West Bengal, no cinema hall has as yet agreed to show the controversial film which was earlier banned by the state government fearing "communal disturbances". Satadeep Saha, distributor of the film in Bengal, told PTI on Friday that none of the single screens and multiplexes in the state have come forward to show 'The Kerala Story' as yet, including theatres owned by his family. "We have asked the hall owners and multi-plex authorities that they can go ahead with the screening since there is no hurdle in showing Kerala Story now. But till now no one has picked up the move for release here May be they don't want to antagonise anyone," Saha told PTI. India has cleared first grant for international film: MoS I&B L Murugran

Ahead of his visit to the Cannes Film Festival, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan on Monday said India has cleared its first incentive grant for an international film and more such projects are in the pipeline. Murugan is leading the Indian delegation to the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where the Indian Pavilion has been designed using themes from the 'Saraswati Yantra' -- the abstract representation of Goddess Saraswati, keeper of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom and learning. "India will participate in the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (One Earth, One Family, One Future), showcasing our rich culture under the powerful creative economy," he said. 'RRR' loses Golden Globe for best picture-non English to 'Argentina,1985'

SS Rajamouli's "RRR" lost out the Golden Globe award for the 'best picture-non English' to Argentina's historical drama "Argentina, 1985". It was a bittersweet moment for the team of "RRR" as minutes earlier the movie's hit track "Naatu Naatu" won the award for the best original songmotion picture. "Argentina, 1985", directed by Santiago Mitre, is based on real events and follows the events surrounding the 1985 Trial of the Juntas, which prosecuted the ringleaders of Argentina's last civil-military dictatorship. The other nominees in 'best picture-non English' category were Korean romantic mystery film Decision To Leave, German anti-war drama All Quiet on the Western Front, and French-Dutch coming-of-age drama Close. Bengali film director Pinaki Chaudhuri dies at 82 following illness

National award recipient director of Bengali films, Pinaki Chaudhuri, died at his Kolkata residence on Monday following a protracted illness, his family said. Chaudhuri, who was 82, left behind his wife and a son. He was suffering from lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, and was admitted to a hospital one month back. He was discharged three days ago as the hospital authorities suggested that he be taken back to his residence in the last days of life. Chaudhuri had varied interests in arts and music and made his foray into the world of films in 1983 when he directed Chena Achena' (Known and Unknown) starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Amol Palekar, Tanuja, Chhaya Devi among others. He got two national awards for Shanghaath' (Conflict) in 1996 and for Ballygunge Court' in 2007. Among his other notable films are Kakababu Here Gelen?' Chiranjeevi's 'Godfather' earns Rs 38 cr in worldwide collection on day one

Superstar Chiranjeevi's Telugu film "Godfather" has raised Rs 38 crore worldwide on its opening day, the makers announced Saturday. Released on Wednesday, the political action thriller is a remake of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran's 2019 Malayalam directorial Lucifer, which featured Mohanlal in the lead. Production house Konidela Production Company shared the day one box office collection of the movie on Twitter. "Humongous Blockbuster #GodFather off to a sensational start. Worldwide gross of 38 CR+ on Day 1" the production banner tweeted. Also starring Nayanthara and Satyadev Kancharana, Godfather is directed by Mohan Raja.
