The toll in a major fire in a residential building in the Nampally area here on November 13 rose to ten, after a 17-year-old, who was injured in the accident succumbed to his injuries, police said on Saturday. In the wake of fire accidents occurring on trains across the country, an appeal has been made by two divisions of the Railways to passengers asking them not to carry inflammable materials on trains. South Central Railway Zone's Vijayawada Division and East Coast Railway's Waltair Division on Friday urged passengers not to carry inflammable materials such as gas cylinders, petrol, diesel, kerosene, stoves, matchboxes, cigarette lighters and any detonating substances, including firecrackers. "Carrying inflammable and explosive articles on railways is a punishable offence and stern action would be taken under Sections 67, 164 and 165 of the Railway Act, 1989 with penalties of up to Rs 1,000 or imprisonment for up to three years or both," Narendra A Patil, divisional railways manager (DRM), Vijayawada Division, said in a press release. A fire ripped through a building of a coal mine company in north China's Shanxi province on Thursday, killing at least 26 people and injuring 38, state media reported. The fire started on the second floor of the five-story building located in Lishi District of Lyuliang City at around 6.50 am (local time). The on-site rescue operation ended at 1:45 pm (local time) on Thursday, according to the information office of the city. A fire broke out in a coach of a passenger train early Thursday, just hours after a blaze in an express train injured eight in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district. "Some people have been taken to a hospital," Etawah Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjai Kumar said and added that more details are awaited. The fire was reported around 2:40 am on Thursday when the Delhi-Saharasa Vaishali Express was passing through an area under the Friends Colony police station, he said. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire in the train's S-6 coach was doused, police said. Sixteen people, including six children, were rescued after a fire broke out in a flat in central Delhi's Subzi Mandi area on Sunday, the Delhi Fire Service officials said. The death toll in the fire accident at a cracker shop near here reached 14 on Sunday following the death of two more people, police sources said. While 12 people were charred to death on the spot at the shop-cum-godown at Attibele in Anekal Taluk on Saturday, two others died while undergoing treatment today. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced an assistance of Rs 50,000 for every family living in a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building here which caught fire two days back.
