AIIMS issues orders to include healthy food items in cafeteria, mess menu

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences here on Wednesday issued orders for inclusion of healthy food items like boiled eggs, milk, sprouts, boiled 'chana' and salad in the menu of the cafeteria and hostel mess. In a communication sent to the chairman of the Cafeteria Management Committee, AIIMS Director M Srinivas said the existing menu of the cafeteria and hostel mess at the institute provides very limited and conventional food like 'samosa', 'kachori' and bread 'pakora' which are considered unhealthy food items. The faculty, resident doctors, nursing officers and other staff members working at AIIMS, New Delhi are involved in patient care and require healthy food to build up and maintain their immunity, the communication said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday cautioned the G-20 leaders that today's fertiliser shortage could become tomorrow's food crisis as he strongly pitched for maintaining a "stable" supply chain for both manure and food grains. Food Min pushes for wide use of millet products in canteen, office meetings

The Food Ministry on Monday said it has decided to promote millet products like ragi biscuits and cookies in its canteen and all meetings. A directive in this regard has been issued recently in order to promote the consumption of healthy products ahead of the International Year of Millets to be celebrated in 2023. Millets products such as ragi biscuits, cookies, ladoos, baked millet chips etc. as snacks to be served in the meetings. Dosa, idli and vada with millet as the main raw material to be used in the canteens and as far as possible locally available millet-based products should be used, the ministry said in a statement.
