At least six personnel of the forest department were injured after they were allegedly attacked by villagers during a confrontation over removal of encroachment on stretch of forest land on MP-Rajasthan border. The incident happened in Kasba Thana forest check post range under Baran district, when a forest department squad visited the area for a plantation drive and to remove the encroachment. On the basis of a complaint of forest department officials, around 10 people only two of them identified were booked on Saturday night on charges of deterring a public servant from discharge of his duty and hurting him. None of the accused have been arrested yet, even though the area was raided by police teams led by Circle Officer Hament Gautam and SHO Rajkumar Meena on Sunday. Leopard cub found dead in Mumbai's Film City; forest dept denies poaching

A leopard cub aged eight to nine months was found dead inside the Film City in Mumbai on Sunday morning, but the forest department officials ruled out any poaching attempt as all body parts of the animal were intact. The necropsy report later revealed that respiratory complications and head trauma with bleeding were the primary causes of the death, a forest official said. "On Sunday morning, the control room of the forest department received a call from the Film City located in suburban Goregaon, informing that a leopard cub was found dead near a film set. The rescue team of the forest department reached the spot and recovered the carcass," he said. The body parts of the animal were found intact, and hence the possibility of poaching was ruled out in the initial investigation, he added. Only 37% of trees transplanted in last 3 yrs survived in Delhi: Forest Dept

Only 37 percent of the trees transplanted in the national capital in 2021-22 have survived despite the implementation of the Delhi tree transplantation policy, according to forest department data. A senior forest department official said, "The policy has made the tree transplantation process more scientific but we are yet to study its impact as it was implemented just a year-and-a-half ago". The forest department data showed that only one-third (33.33 percent) of the 16,461 trees transplanted in Delhi over the last three years survived. Only 1,521 of the 4,162 trees transplanted in the city in 2019-20 survived. Just 2,001 (28.57 percent) of the 7,003 trees survived in 2020-21 and 1,965 (37.10 percent) of the 5,296 trees transplanted in 2021-22 are alive, the data showed. According to the Delhi government's tree transplantation policy notified in December 2020, agencies concerned have to transplant a minimum of 80 percent of the trees affected by their development works.
