The Centre on Monday told the Delhi High Court that the draft regulation in relation to online gaming has been circulated and it is in the process of finalising the same. The statement was made by the central government counsel before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra and Justice Subramonium Prasad. The Centre's lawyer informed the court which was hearing petitions by Atul Batra and Avinash Mehrotra concerning the regulation of online gaming -- that consultations with the stakeholders have begun. Draft regulation has been circulated and consultations have started. Stakeholder meeting with all representatives, whether lawyers or civil society... two rounds have already happened. The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Thursday said the draft IT Rules on online gaming are "right on intention but poor on scoping". While the proposed rules are a "very positive development" for the online gaming industry ecosystem for three reasons including creating a legal framework for orderly and accelerated development of the industry, the "scoping of the rules has been done poorly" and the some aspects need a "major re-look", the industry body said. These include the definition of gaming and what is sought to be regulated. "Here the members of the association feel that the definition of online gaming is too broad and vague and would unnecessarily bring under regulation and expensive compliance a set of firms that do not need to be regulated or need to be very lightly regulated," IAMAI said in a statement. Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top destination for mobile gamers, followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar and West Bengal, according to India Mobile Gaming Report 2022 by gaming platform Mobile Premier League released on Sunday. Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh have seen the highest increase in mobile gamers in 2022 compared to 2021. In terms of games, Ludo Dice, Snakes and Ladders, Carrom, Fruit Dart, Block Puzzle and Poker were some of the top games played by gamers across different Indian cities.
