In process of finalising online gaming regulation, Centre tells Delhi HC

The Centre on Monday told the Delhi High Court that the draft regulation in relation to online gaming has been circulated and it is in the process of finalising the same. The statement was made by the central government counsel before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra and Justice Subramonium Prasad. The Centre's lawyer informed the court which was hearing petitions by Atul Batra and Avinash Mehrotra concerning the regulation of online gaming -- that consultations with the stakeholders have begun. Draft regulation has been circulated and consultations have started. Stakeholder meeting with all representatives, whether lawyers or civil society... two rounds have already happened. Right on intention, poor on scoping: IAMAI on draft rules for online gaming

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Thursday said the draft IT Rules on online gaming are "right on intention but poor on scoping". While the proposed rules are a "very positive development" for the online gaming industry ecosystem for three reasons including creating a legal framework for orderly and accelerated development of the industry, the "scoping of the rules has been done poorly" and the some aspects need a "major re-look", the industry body said. These include the definition of gaming and what is sought to be regulated. "Here the members of the association feel that the definition of online gaming is too broad and vague and would unnecessarily bring under regulation and expensive compliance a set of firms that do not need to be regulated or need to be very lightly regulated," IAMAI said in a statement. Khelo India Youth Games to commence in Madhya Pradesh on Monday evening

The fifth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) will be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the presence of Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur at Tatya Tope Nagar Stadium here on Monday evening. The KYIG 2022 will be held at 23 venues in eight cities of the state in which nearly 6,000 athletes will take part in 27 different sports, an official said. InMobi group's Nostra expects 3-fold rise in user base to 200 mn by 2024

Softbank-backed InMobi group's mobile gaming platform Nostra on Tuesday said it expects to grow its user base by close to three-fold to 200 million by 2024. Nostra, formerly Glance Gaming, said it has surpassed 75 million monthly active users in online gaming through Glance Lock Screen, making it India and Southeast Asia's largest mobile gaming platform. "Users are not only playing games on Nostra but also engaging deeply with games streams. They clocked over 470 million hours watching game streams in 2022. UP emerges top gaming destination; tier 2-3 towns outpacing metros: Report

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top destination for mobile gamers, followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar and West Bengal, according to India Mobile Gaming Report 2022 by gaming platform Mobile Premier League released on Sunday. Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh have seen the highest increase in mobile gamers in 2022 compared to 2021. In terms of games, Ludo Dice, Snakes and Ladders, Carrom, Fruit Dart, Block Puzzle and Poker were some of the top games played by gamers across different Indian cities. In Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Ghaziabad and Allahabad have the highest share of gamers. "Thirty-six per cent of the total gamers in UP hail from these cities. This is the second year in a row that Lucknow has earned recognition for its gaming prowess -- last year's IMGR revealed that growth in Lucknow outpaced all metros," the report said.
