The government procurement portal GeM is organizing buyer-seller workshops in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh from June 12 till August 31, an official statement said on Sunday. It aims to enhance the understanding of GeM's functionalities among buyers and sellers in the state, as well as provide a platform to address any queries or concerns they may have, the statement said. During the workshops, participants will receive comprehensive training on GeM's (government e-marketplace) features, registration processes, and various aspects of online procurement. The workshops will also facilitate networking opportunities, enabling participants to connect with potential partners and explore business collaborations.
India's largest lender SBI was quite slow in procuring goods and services from government-owned GeM portal in 2022-23 and lagged behind smaller counterparts, including Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank, according to the government data. IT major TCS and Intellect Design Arena are in the race for a contract for the development of an advanced version of public procurement portal GeM, sources said. The government invited tenders for new GeM (Government e-marketplace) portal development work in February-March this year and after scrutiny of the bids, TCS and Intellect Design Arena qualified in the technical stage. Fintech Company Infibeam Avenues Ltd is out of the race as it was disqualified during the tender evaluation as the company was not able to submit the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) certificate which is mandatory for IT projects, they said. The government had set a pre-condition for the bidders to have a special certificate to qualify for the GeM portal tender. The Centre has asked states to incorporate certain provisions in the contracts of outsourced workers to protect their rights amid concerns about underpayment of wages and other benefits. More than 400 cooperative societies have registered on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal in last three months, Union Minister B L Verma said on Monday. On June 1, the Union Cabinet had given its approval for expanding the mandate of GeM to allow procurement by cooperatives as buyers on GeM. Steelmaker SAIL on Thursday said it has made procurement worth Rs 10,000 crore through the Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) since the inception of the portal. The portal was launched on August 9, 2016. Presently more than 7,400 products in about 150 product categories and hiring of transport service are available on it.
