Mumbai-bound AI flight suffers bird-hit at Goa airport, take-off aborted

An Air India flight with 116 passengers on board, which was about to depart from the Dabolim airport in Goa for Mumbai, had to abort its take-off due to a bird-hit on Wednesday morning, a senior official said. The incident took place at 6.45 am. Due to the bird-hit, smoke started emanating from the aircraft's engine following which the flight take-off was aborted, airport director M C Jayarajan told reporters in Vasco. The air traffic controller reported the incident to senior authorities, he said. The flight with 116 passengers on board was scheduled for Mumbai from the Goa International Airport at Dabolim, located near Vasco in South Goa, the official said. Revenue collection from Manohar airport to commence from Dec: Goa CM

The calculation and collection of revenue from the Manohar International Airport will commence in December, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the assembly on Monday. Responding to questions raised by Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai, Sawant said the revenue collection holiday got extended due to the delay in completing phase I of the airport owing to litigation and the COVID-19 pandemic. These things are beyond the control of the concessionaire and the government, the chief minister said. "The scheduled deadline for the project completion and the revenue holiday period got extended because of these factors, resulting in the commencement delay," he said. Link road to Mopa airport to be completed by April: Gadkari in Goa

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday reviewed the progress of various infrastructure projects in Goa. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, several MLAs and senior state government officials were present in the meeting chaired by the Union minister of road transport and highways. "During the meeting, it was decided that a major link road to Manohar International Airport at Mopa will be completed by April 2024. Work on the six-lane elevated corridor at Porvorim, the foundation stone of which was laid by Gadkari on Friday, will begin in January," a senior official said. "The road connecting the highway to Mormugao Port in Vasco town would be completed by April next year. The new bridge across Zuari river in Borim village has been granted tentative approval by National Highway Authority of India," he added. North Goa airport announces direct Indigo flight services to Abu Dhabi

The Manohar International Airport in North Goa on Monday announced a direct Indigo flight service to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) thrice a week, starting September 2. A senior official of the airport operator GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) said that the inaugural Indigo flight to Abu Dhabi from Manohar International Airport is scheduled for Saturday, September 02, 2023 at 00:25 am. Manohar Airport an authorised immigration check post for e-visa holders

The Manohar International Airport (MIA) in Goa is now an authorised immigration check post for the entry of individuals holding e-visas, a spokesperson of the airport said. The international flights commenced at the MIA on July 21, with the arrival of a flight from London-Gatwick airport, he said. The MIA, located in North Goa, is developed and operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd (GGIAL), a subsidiary of the GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd. The MIA is now an authorised immigration check post (ICP) for those holding e-visas, the spokesperson said in a media statement released on Saturday. The first passenger flight arrived at the Manohar International Airport in Goa from Hyderabad on Thursday, marking the commencement of operations at the new facility in the coastal state. Goa introduces Blue Cab service at Manohar International Airport from Jan 5

The Goa government on Wednesday announced the introduction of the Blue Cab service at the Manohar International Airport in the state from January 5. An IndiGo flight from Hyderabad will be the first flight to land at the newly-built airport on Thursday. Ahead of the first arrival, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant held a meeting with Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho in Panaji to oversee the preparations. Talking to reporters later, Godinho said the state government has decided to introduce Blue Cabs outside the airport. These cabs would be exclusively owned by locals of Pernem taluka where the airport is located, he said. The Union Cabinet has given ex-post facto approval for naming of Greenfield International Airport at Goa's Mopa as Manohar International Airport, after former defence minister and Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar. "To fulfil the cherished aspirations of the people of the State of Goa, Chief Minister of Goa conveyed unanimous decision of the Cabinet of State Government of Goa to name the Greenfield International Airport, Mopa, Goa as 'Manohar International Airport Mopa, Goa'," the Cabinet said in a statement. IndiGo aircraft develops snag at Goa airport, passengers disembarked safely

An engine of an IndiGo aircraft scheduled to fly to Mumbai with 187 passengers on board developed a snag at the Goa airport on Tuesday afternoon, a senior official said. All the passengers were disembarked safely by the rescue teams of the Indian Navy, said airport director S V T Dhananjaya Rao. The aircraft was taken to the taxi bay by the Navy teams, he told PTI. The Goa airport is a part of the Navy's INS Hansa base. Goa's Mopa airport commissioning after Aug 15, says CM Pramod Sawant

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said the Mopa international airport, which is expected to double the number of flights landing in the state, will be commissioned after August 15. Speaking in the state Assembly during the monsoon session on Wednesday, Sawant said, "Almost 90 per cent of work on the project has been completed and trials at the airport are on." The airport at Mopa in North Goa district would be commissioned "between August 15 and September 1 this year," he said. A Skill Development Centre has already started operating at the airport site where students are being trained for the purpose of employment in the project. More students would be enrolled in the coming days, the CM said.
