Goa Assembly polls: Congress releases another list of 5 more candidates

The Congress on Thursday released another list of five candidates for the February 14 Goa Assembly elections. With this, the party has so far declared 36 candidates. While Ekvis Gomes will contest from Panaji, Tukaram Borkar will be the Congress nominee from Siroda and Jose Luis Carlos Almeida will contest from the Vasco-da-Gama seat. Anthony Dias will be the party candidate from the Benaulim Assembly seat and Amit Patkar will contest from the Curchorem seat for the Congress Party.

BJP core committee discusses candidates for Uttarakhand, Goa polls

After releasing the candidate list for 105 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday held discussions on all 70 seats of the Uttarakhand assembly polls.Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand BJP president Madan Kaushik, election in-charge Prahlad Joshi, in-charge Dushyant Gautam, co-in-charges RP Singh and Locket Chatterjee were present in the meeting.The meeting, which started at 6 pm in the BJP office went on till 10 pm.A panel of three names was sent to Delhi, which was discussed in the core group meeting today. The 70 seats which have been discussed today would be taken forward in the CEC meeting to be held on January 19. Incumbent BJP to face challenge from newcomers TMC, AAP in Goa polls

Countdown began for Assembly elections on Saturday in Goa where new entrant TMC and AAP among others will be taking on the ruling BJP. The Election Commission of India (ECI) earlier in the day announced that election to all 40 Assembly constituencies in the coastal state would be held on February 14. With the announcement, the model code of conduct came into force. The state has 11 lakh-odd eligible voters. No alliance with TMC for forthcoming Goa Assembly elections: AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday said it will not have an alliance with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) for the forthcoming Goa Assembly elections. The AAP is determined to provide a fresh alternative to Goa with good candidates and form an honest and corruption- free government, the party's Goa desk in-charge Atishi said. The Assembly polls in the coastal state are due early next year. I say with full responsibility that there will be no alliance with TMC. So, there is no question of any talks with them. We are determined to give Goa a fresh alternative with good candidates and form a honest corruption free government, Atishi tweeted. She was responding to a tweet by a West Bengal-based writer, who quoted a media report saying the AAP is looking to forge an alliance with the TMC in Goa and that the Mamata Banerjee-led party is yet to decide on the proposal, but the two sides have held a round of discussion on the issue. Goa polls: Process to shortlist Cong candidates to begin on Nov 26

The Congress will start the process of shortlisting candidates from November 26 for the Goa Assembly polls scheduled for early 2022, state unit chief Girish Chodankar said on Tuesday. He said party observer Prakash Rathod would be holding meetings with functionaries of all 40 blocks in the Assembly constituencies to shortlist candidates. "The process for south Goa will take place on November 26-27, while the north Goa district will submit names of probable candidates on November 28 and December 1. On November 30, the Pradesh Election Committee will meet to discuss the already shortlisted names, while the Screening Committee will meet on December 3-4," he said. In the absence of any alliance at the moment, candidates would be shortlisted for all 40 seats in the Goa Assembly, Chodankar said.
