Government's procurement portal GeM is conducting registration and onboarding drive for participating Indian sellers and service providers at the India International Trade Fair, an official statement said on Monday. The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is an online platform that facilitates end-to-end procurement of goods and services by various central, state ministries, departments, organisations, public sector undertakings, panchayats, and cooperatives. The online portal was established with a clear objective to eliminate cumbersome and archaic manual public procurement processes that were riddled with inefficiencies and transparency-related issues. GeM is onboarding the Indian sellers and service providers by conducting an extensive registration drive at its pavilion at the India International Trade Fair (IITF), the commerce ministry said. With the procurement of goods and services through government's portal GeM crossing Rs 1.24 lakh crore in first quarter of 2024-25, the platform will become world's largest by the end of this fiscal, a senior official said on Thursday. The Government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on August 9, 2016, for online purchases of goods and services by all central government ministries and departments. "GeM has clocked a gross merchandise value of Rs 1,24,761 lakh crore at the end of first quarter, representing a quarter-on-quarter growth of 136 per cent over last year's Rs 52,670 crore," GeM CEO Prashant Kumar Singh told reporters here. The procurement of goods and services through government's portal GeM has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore so far this fiscal due to higher buying activities by various ministries and departments, a senior government official said on Friday. The Government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on August 9, 2016, for online purchases of goods and services by all central government ministries and departments. "As of March 28, the procurement has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore. It is historic," GeM CEO P K Singh told reporters here. In 2021-22 the procurement value stood at Rs 1.06 lakh crore and it crossed Rs 2 lakh crore last financial year. MSMEs getting major business from public procurement portal GeM: Singh

Micro and small enterprises are getting major business from public procurement portal GeM and they are expected to sell goods and services worth over USD 20 billion by the end of this fiscal, a senior government official said on Monday. The Government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on August 9, 2016, for online purchases of goods and services by all the central government ministries and departments. Procurement of goods and services from government portal GeM has crossed Rs 90,000 crore so far this fiscal on account of an increase in buying activities by different ministries and departments. Some state police chiefs ask GeM to allow small arms sale at platform

Police chiefs of some states have asked the commerce ministry's Government e-marketplace (GeM) to permit sale of small arms so that states can procure them at competitive prices from the public procurement platform, an official said. At present, GeM is not authorised to allow sale of small or any type of weapons from its platform. Over 400 cooperatives registered on GeM portal in last 3 months: Govt

More than 400 cooperative societies have registered on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal in last three months, Union Minister B L Verma said on Monday. On June 1, the Union Cabinet had given its approval for expanding the mandate of GeM to allow procurement by cooperatives as buyers on GeM. But it was on August 9, the cooperatives were formally onboarded the portal. "So far, more than 400 cooperatives have registered on the GeM portal and begun the trade," the Minister of State for Cooperation said.
