Culture Ministry has 4,919 posts lying vacant, govt tells Lok Sabha

As many as 4,919 posts are lying vacant against the sanctioned strength of 13,865 which cover the Culture Ministry and its attached, subordinate and autonomous bodies, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy informed the Lok Sabha on Monday. Asked whether the ministry and other departments and bodies under its control have a "shortage of manpower" compared to sanctioned posts, he replied in the affirmative. "There are 4,919 posts lying vacant against the sanctioned strength of 13,865 which cover the ministry and its attached, subordinate and autonomous bodies. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has 3,696 centrally protected monuments in various states and Union Territories of the country. "ASI takes up maintenance and conservation work of these monuments and sites regularly, as per availability of resources. Upkeep of the monuments is a continuous process," he said. Public transport was affected and schools remained closed as the 12-hour shutdown by several students' organisations demanding 100 per cent reservation for locals in state government jobs evoked a mixed response in Jharkhand on Wednesday. Members of different organisations under the banner of the Jharkhand State Students' Union (JSSU) took to the streets to enforce a state-wide shutdown, which began at 6pm. Several student leaders were detained across the state for blocking roads by burning tyres and creating a ruckus, police said. Govt invites applications for 40 posts at SFIO on deputation basis

The government has sought applications for filling 40 positions, including posts of additional director and joint directors, at the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) on a deputation basis. Applications have been invited for 40 posts that include positions of Additional Director, Joint Director, and Deputy Director among others in the areas of financial transaction, capital market, forensic audit, investigation, law and corporate law, according to a public notice. Applicants must be officers working under the central or state governments/ union territories or public sector undertakings or semi-government or autonomous bodies or statutory organizations. The vacancies to be filled up on a deputation basis, are across SFIO offices in the national capital, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. Puducherry CM assures fair selection of candidates via tests for govt posts

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Tuesday assured the territorial assembly that there would be fair selection of candidates for postings in government departments through competitive examinations. He was responding to the apprehensions expressed by the ruling BJP legislator P M L Kalyanasundaram over rumours that there were other ways of selection for the posts of lower and upper division clerks (LDCs and UDCs). "This rumour has come to cause concern among the young aspirants who had applied for the examination," Kalyanasundaram said. The CM in his reply to the member's representation said, "selection examination through competitive tests for the posts of LDCs and UDCs would be fair and none should get hoodwinked." West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday asserted that priority must be given to locals and those knowing the local language during recruitment in state government jobs. Banerjee said that this practice would ease administrative affairs. "I am telling this to all the states. In West Bengal, if a person is from the state, he/she must get priority during recruitment to state government jobs even if his/her mother tongue is not Bengali. I have no objection to that. "But that person must know Bengali and should be a resident of the state. If he/she knows more languages, it's good. But knowledge of the local language is a must," Banerjee said during an administrative review meeting here.
