Guwahati airport records increase in passengers, aircraft movements in 2024

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati, recorded the "highest-ever" international passenger and aircraft movements this year since the Adani Group began managing its commercial operations from October 2021, a company statement said on Saturday. The airport also registered an increase in domestic passengers and added new domestic destinations during the year, it said.The facility managed 6.26 million domestic and more than 85,000 international passengers. Of the domestic passengers, 3.09 million were arrivals and 3.17 million departures. Additionally, it handled 47,578 international passenger arrivals and 38,528 international departures, the statement said. Rs 2,000-cr new terminal of Guwahati airport to open in Apr 2025: Official

The Adani Group-run Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati will move to its upcoming terminal by April 2025, a senior official said. The initial target to complete the terminal building, being developed at a total cost of over Rs 2,000 crore, was December 2024, but it got delayed by around four months due to a change in design, he said. "Our new terminal will be ready by April 2025. The little delay was due to a change in the design to include more facilities in the building. We want to make it the most effective terminal in the country," Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah told PTI. In August 2020, the Union Cabinet accorded its approval for leasing the Guwahati airport for operation, management and development to Adani Enterprises for 50 years. Passenger handling increases by 22% to 460,000 in Sept in Guwahati airport

The Guwahati airport has handled 4.6 lakh passengers in September, an increase of 22 per cent compared to the same month last year, Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah said on Saturday. The international airport also handled almost 4,000 air traffic movements in September, which is 19 per cent higher than that (3,216) in that month in 2022, he said. The airport handled 4.6 lakh passengers in September. This is 22 per cent higher than the previous year's 3,58,297 in the same month last year, Baruah told reporters. The Guwahati airport has witnessed movement of over 610 private or chartered flights since April this year as activities of the government, business and others have increased considerably in comparison to those in the previous year. Guwahati airport handles 1,000 metric tonnes of cargo in last three months

The domestic cargo terminal of Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has handled a total cargo, both inbound and outbound, of around 1,000 metric tonnes in the last three months, an official release said on Monday. In June, the airport handled 146 tons of cargo, 411 tons in July and 426 tons in August, officials said. The state-of-the-art terminal is currently 550 square-metres and a new plan is being initiated to build an international cargo terminal building, the release added. Passenger footfall touches 500,000 at Guwahati Airport in June, jumps 15%

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport has witnessed a 15 per cent rise in passenger footfall in June this year to almost five lakh travellers, an official said on Sunday. A spokesperson of the Adani Group-controlled facility said the LGBI Airport in Guwahati recorded a footfall of nearly five lakh passengers in June 2023, witnessing a sharp increase from the corresponding month of the last year. "Out of the total, nearly 2.95 lakh were departure passengers and the remaining were arrival travellers. It represented a total increase of 15 per cent compared to last year's June," she added. The airport witnessed nearly 4,000 movements of flights in June 2023, which was higher than the June 2022 figure, the official said. IndiGo plane with Union minister diverted to Guwahati due to glitch

A Dibrugarh-bound plane of the IndiGo was diverted to Guwahati on Sunday morning after the pilot suspected a snag in the engine, officials said. Over 150 passengers were travelling on flight 6E-2652, including Union MoS for Petroleum Rameswar Teli and two Assam BJP MLAs -- Prasanta Phukan and Terash Gowala, they said. Teli told PTI that 15-20 minutes before the landing, it was announced that the flight was being diverted. "Initially we were frightened and sceptic as to why the flight was not able to land at the Dibrugarh airport. It was diverted to Guwahati. Then the pilot made the announcement that because of a technical snag in the engine, they need a longer runway to land," he said. Dibrugarh-bound IndiGo flight makes emergency landing at Guwahati Airport

Adani group entity operating Guwahati airport gets aerodrome licence

The Guwahati International Airport Ltd, the Adani group entity that operates the LGBI Airport, here, has been granted aerodrome licence by the DGCA for complete management of the airport, an official statement said on Saturday. The licence was granted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday, the Guwahati International Airport Ltd statement said. It said the aerodrome licence has been given for "ensuring complete management, operations and development of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport in accordance with the concession agreement". "The license authorises the aerodrome to be used as a public airport of the country," it added. Akasa Air to start services to Guwahati, Agartala from Bengaluru

Newly-launched Akasa Air on Monday said it will commence its flight services to the northeast with the addition of Agartala (Tripura) and Guwahati (Assam) from October 21. As part of this expansion, the airline will connect the two north-eastern destinations, which will be its seventh and eighth, respectively, with Bengaluru, Akasa Air said in a statement. These new flights will provide seamless one-stop connectivity between Bengaluru and Agartala with no change of aircraft required at Guwahati, it said.
