Blow from Delhi's voters awaits AAP for suppressing CAG reports: Puri

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri flayed the AAP on Monday over the Delhi High Court's observations on its government's failure to place certain CAG reports before the Assembly and asserted that the party will get a blow from the voters in the upcoming polls in the capital for "suppressing" the national auditor's findings. Hearing a petition filed by some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, the high court said on Monday that the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on the city administration should have promptly been placed before the Assembly for discussions, but the government of the National Capital Territory "dragged its feet", raising "doubts on its bonafides". "It is crystal clear. You (the AAP government) have delayed (placing the reports before the Assembly)," Puri told PTI when asked for his comments on the court's observations in the matter. He said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government should have sent the reports to the Assembly speaker and ...

ONGC awaits mining lease for new oil field discoveries in WB's Ashokenagar

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has made four more discoveries since it first made an oil field near Asokenagar in West Bengal six years back but is still awaiting the state government's nod for a petroleum mining lease to develop them, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday. ONGC notified the first Asokenagar discovery in Block WB-ONN-2005/4 on September 24, 2018, Puri said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. The discovery, he said was the outcome of continuous exploration efforts of ONGC in the Bengal sedimentary basin over five decades. As per initial laboratory studies, crude oil, which is refined into fuels like petrol and diesel, discovered in the Ashokenagar discovery is a light variety with American Petroleum Institute (API) gravity of 40-41 degrees and is almost similar to Bombay High and Brent Crude. "ONGC, accordingly, applied on September 10, 2020, to the Government of West Bengal for a grant of Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) for an

Union Minister Puri assures no crude oil shortage, ample refining capacity

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday said there is no shortage of crude oil in the world and enough refining capacity in the country to meet the domestic requirements. Referring to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the minister said it was his personal assessment that things will calm down, noting that it is in everybody's interest not to allow exaggeration to take place because everyone suffers. "There is no shortage of crude oil in the world," said Puri while replying to a question on the sidelines of an event regarding 'Rozgar Mela' here. "Prior to all these developments, the total amount of crude, which was produced in the world, was close to 105 million barrels a day. OPEC+, a group of producing countries, voluntarily cut about 5 million barrels (a day). "If you talk to them, they will say they do not deal with prices but if you limit the quantity which comes into the market, then you are obviously affecting prices. It came down to 97

World has enough oil, more supplies coming: Puri hopes prices will cool

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday said the world has enough crude oil and more supplies are coming into the market, which he hoped will cool down oil prices. "There is no shortage of oil," he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here. But geopolitical tensions cause prices to rise owing to higher freight and insurance charges incurred in avoiding conflict zones. He hoped better sense will prevail and diplomacy will take precedence. Despite geopolitical tensions, there is no shortage of oil in the world and more supplies from countries such as Brazil and Guyana are coming into the market, he said. There is no anxiety over availability, he said, adding "We are confident of navigating, as we had in the past... any situation arising." India imports more than 85 per cent of its oil needs and any rise in global rates not just impacts import bills but also fuels inflation. "My hope is that oil prices remain stable and come down... that's my personal opinion," he .

India only country where petrol, diesel prices declined: Petroleum min Puri

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday said India is the only country where rates of petrol and diesel have come down between November 2021 and April 2024. Replying to various queries during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, the minister also informed that the government is encouraging dialogue between Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealers regarding margins for the latter. Puri noted that petrol and diesel were deregulated during the UPA government. Deregulation means that prices of the commodity in the market are not set by the government, he added. "Prices here being high and elsewhere being low. It's exactly the opposite. In India today, the prices are the lowest and is the only country where prices have actually come down," Puri said. He attributed this to very bold, ambitious and farsighted decisions taken by the Prime Minister. "The prices in the world, I am giving you a two-year reference period between November 2021 and April 2024. Why I'm

Govt making efforts to keep CNG prices under control: Oil minister Puri

The government is making constant efforts to bring the prices of compressed natural gas under control and has delinked Indian gas prices from four international hubs based in US, Canada, UK and Russia, and aligned them to the Indian crude basket, Oil minister Hardeep Puri informed the Rajya Sabha. Responding to supplementaries during the Question Hour, he said the government is encouraging consumption of compressed natural gas as it is relatively a cleaner fuel. "The government has ensured that while global prices were witnessing turbulence, massive increases and shortfall. Lockdown prices do not reflect reality prices, as during the lockdown crude prices came down to USD 19.56 per barrel and then shot up to USD 128 and USD 130 per barrel. "In April 2023, we rationalised the CNG prices and as a result while global prices shot up, domestic gas price was much lower, 83 per cent lower," the minister told the upper house. Previous govts had no policy to handle energy requirements: Hardeep Puri

Urbanisation and energy requirements were neglected by previous governments as the focus was more on rural development with the vision of India living in villages, said Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday. The central minister for housing and urban affairs was speaking at the first edition of Pune Public Policy Festival at Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. As people started migrating to urban areas from semi-urban pockets for job opportunities, the economic calculation started going wrong since the previous governments did not have an urban policy in place, a media release said quoting the minister. The cumulative spent on urban space by the central government was about Rs 1,57,000 crore between 2004 and 2014. After 2014, we realised the challenges in urbanisation and we saw an opportunity in it, he said. The current government has increased its urban spent by 11 times, Puri said. Today, we are spending about Rs 18 lakh crore for this purpose. This expenditure
