Women' team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the only Indian player to get picked in the Women's Big Bash League overseas draft, being retained by Melbourne Renegades here on Sunday. A total of 18 Indian players, including Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma, among other figured in the inaugural WBBL overseas draft but none got picked. Placed in the platinum category, Harmanpreet was retained by the Renegades along with Hayley Matthews of the West Indies. Harmanpreet performed remarkably for the Renegades during the 2021-22 season, scoring 406 runs in 12 innings at an average of 58.00 and a strike rate of 130.96, including three half-centuries and a top score of 81 not out. She was also effective with the ball, taking 15 wickets at an economy of 7.45, with best figures of 3 for 22. Harmanpreet had made her WBBL debut with Sydney Thunder in 2016-17. Speaking on Harmanpreet's retention, Renegades head coach Simon Helmot stated, "I'm so pleased we got both of them ...
Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur said on Sunday that she has no regret over her temperamental outburst during the third ODI against Bangladesh last month in Dhaka. Harmanpreet was banned for two matches after she smashed the stumps over the umpire's decision to give her out. Later in the post-match presentation, she had also termed the umpiring "pathetic" during the bilateral series. Following the ban, Harmanpreet will miss India's first two T20I matches at the Hanghzou Asian Games in September-October. "I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player, you always have the right to express yourself and what you're feeling," she was quoted as saying by The Cricket Paper during the Women's Hundred. Harmanpreet is playing for Trent Rockets in the tournament. "I don't think I said anything wrong to any player or any person. I just said what happened on the field. I don't reg
Emphasising the importance of long format in women's cricket, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has called for more international and domestic red-ball fixtures. In the current Future Tours Programme (FTP) cycle that goes on from 2022-25, Indian women's team will play the fewest Test matches among the four sides competing in the longest format. "This year we have two Tests - one against England and one against Australia - and I hope those games can make a huge impact on women's cricket and hopefully in the future we will keep getting more Test matches. "We have to bring back Test matches in women's cricket because it's very important for women's cricket," Kaur said on 'Sky Sports Cricket Podcast'. India are scheduled to play only a couple of Test matches -- both at home in the 2023-24 season against England and Australia. Their last Test was in 2021 in Australia. England will play the most Tests -- five -- and Australia and South Africa four and three each. "As a player, I definitel
Temperamental Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur will only be able to play in the Asian Games if her team reaches the final of the mega event starting September 23 in Hangzhou. Four teams in both men's and women's events -- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- will be directly playing from the last eight stage, courtesy the ICC T20I ranking on June 1. All the matches will have official T20I status. Harmanpreet, who has been slapped with a two-match ban for her public outburst after an ODI game against Bangladesh recently, is ineligible to play the quarter-final which will surely be against an associate nation followed by the semi-final against a full member nation. Even the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led men's team has got a direct entry into the quarter-final on the basis of its ICC T20 ranking on June 1. The men's event will comprise 18 teams while women's event will have 14 outfits. The women's competition will start on September 19 and end with the gold and bron
With ICC handing a 2-match ban to India captain Kaur, India will be without the services of their skipper in the first two matches of the Asian Games 2023.
Harmanpreet Kaur's boorish behaviour during and after the third ODI captain against Bangladesh was rash and did not befit the image of an Indian captain, said former skipper Shantha Rangaswamy on Tuesday. Harmanpreet got a two match suspension for her outburst in Dhaka last week where she shattered stumps after being adjudged leg before and publicly criticised the match officials. "Her behaviour was deplorable. If she had stopped after her dismissal (it would still be acceptable to some) but what she did at the presentation was not good for the game. It was rash and she went overboard," Shantha told PTI. Harmanpreet's behaviour undid all the good work done by boards of both the countries, feels Shantha. "She is our best batter no doubt, but to behave like this is not acceptable. An act like that undoes good work done by the boards of respective countries. India is leading a country in the region and it needs the support of other nations. "Harman went there as a brand ambassador of
With a recent incident where she broke the stumps with a bat and slammed the umpires in the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur is once again in controversies. And it is not the first time
Harmanpreet Kaur was adjudged out leg before wicket. Due to the non-availability of the Decision Review System (DRS), the call could not be reviewed. She criticised umpires in the post-match interview
With India expected to win a women's cricket event medal, BCCI put forward one of the strongest squad for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
With focus firmly on batting, the Indian women's cricket team will be eyeing a 3-0 sweep of Bangladesh, when the fancied visitors take on the beleaguered hosts in the final T20 International here on Thursday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led outfit won the first two matches without much fuss and will be looking to do an encore when it takes to the field in the third game. However, it is easier said than done given India's mediocre outing with the bat in the second match, which they scraped through by eight runs despite being stopped at 95 in their allotted 20 overs. The hosts were bowled out for 87 thanks to some excellent bowling by the Indians, giving them an unassailable lead in the three-match series. Big-hitting opener Shafali Verma will, once again, be under the lens of the selectors after her twin failures in the series. While her 14-ball 19 eventually turned out to be the team's highest score in the unforgettable collapse, the young batter is well aware of her capabilities and ...
Spinners Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma held their nerves during death overs as India pulled off a nail-biting eight-run victory over Bangladesh to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, here on Wednesday. Off-spinner Sultana Khatun claimed a career-best 3/21 as the hosts grounded a star-studded India to a below-par 95 for 8, their lowest-ever total against Bangladesh in the women's T20I. However Bangladesh stumbled to 87 all-out in 20 overs as India took a series-clinching lead with an inconsequential third match set to be played on Thursday From a comfortable 86 for 5, Bangladesh lost their last five wickets for just one run in a space of eight deliveries in what seemed to be an inexplicable batting collapse. The two young Indian spinners-- offie Minnu Mani (4-1-9-2) and left-arm orthodox Anusha Bareddy (1/20 in 4 overs) made early inroads before the seasoned duo of Deepti (3/12) and Shafali (3/15) pulled off a heist with controlled bowling in the 19th and
India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur climbed four spots up in the ICC Women's Player Rankings to place herself in the top 10 after she scored a fifty in the opening T20I against Bangladesh
The supremely talented Shafali Verma would like to make an impact with the willow after a poor start in the lung opener as Indian women aim to clinch the three-match T20 International series against Bangladesh with another dominant performance in the second game here on Tuesday. India coasted to an easy seven-wicket victory in the opening match on Sunday with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur blazing her way to an unbeaten 35-ball 54 and Smriti Mandhana looking equally dangerous during her short but significant knock of 38. The slow bowlers were also on target as the two debutants Anusha Bareddy and Minnu Mani gave a good account of themselves under senior off-spinner Deepti Sharma. However, what stuck out like a sore thumb was Shafali's three-ball duck and once again the distinct lack of footwork was evident against medium pacer Marufa Akter. The young Haryana woman is one of the biggest batting talents in the country and has already played 57 T20I games even before completing her 20th ...
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur started the new international season with a smashing half-century as the Indian women's team cantered to a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening T20 International here on Sunday. Opting to bowl, the Indian spinners used the conditions to their advantage and restricted Bangladesh to a meagre 114 for 5. In reply, Harmanpreet (54 not out 35 balls) and her deputy Smriti Mandhana (38 off 34 balls) added 70 runs for the third wicket to chase down the target in just 16.2 overs. The skipper hit six boundaries and two sixes and made best use of the two reprieves that she got off left-arm spinner Nahida Akter's bowling. Mandhana was the pace-setter for India as she hit some delectable boundaries, five of them in all, including a rasping square cut off seamer Marufa Akter and an inside out lofted cover-drive. They were shots out of top drawer. This was after the Indian bowlers set it up perfectly for the batters, who had to hardly break a sweat while ..
The Indian women's cricket team will be expecting the fresh faces to grab the opportunity with both hands and finishers to flourish in the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh beginning here on Sunday, its first international assignment in four months. The T20 series will be followed by three ODIs beginning July 16. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side was last in action at the T20 World Cup in South Africa where it endured a narrow loss to Australia in the knockout phase. In an era where most male cricketers live out of a suitcase due to a relentless schedule, the members of the Indian women's team has had a lot of time to reflect and work on their game. The last competitive event for the Indian players was the inaugural Women's Premier League in March. India, who now have all the resources at their disposal, have not been able to take their game to the next level and match the mighty Australia on a regular basis. The team needs to improve on various aspects including fitness, bow
