Copper demand to skyrocket with shift to clean energy sources: HCL CMD

The demand for copper, a key component in electric vehicles, will go up substantially as the world shifts to cleaner energy sources to mitigate climate change, according to Hindustan Copper Chairman and Managing Director Ghanshyam Sharma. By transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced significantly. "As the world transitions to cleaner energy sources...the demand for copper will increase significantly as a vital component in electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies such as solar panels, wind turbines etc," the CMD said in a recent message on the company's website. He further said the company has been given the charge of utilisation of the nation's copper resources in an efficient and sustainable way. HCLSoftware, Intel launch solution to power next generation 5G networks

HCLSoftware, a division of HCL Technologies, on Monday announced a strategic partnership with Intel Corporation to deliver a joint 5G User Plane Function (UPF) acceleration solution, aiming to power the next-generation 5G networks. The joint solution drives cost reduction for operational expenses and capital expenses by up to 80 per cent, the company said in a statement. HCLSoftware 5G UPF Acceleration Solution is a cloud-native software solution incorporating configurable hardware offloading capabilities for both network Edge and Core deployments. It said that the solution improves subscriber user experience and reduces costs for mobile network operators. HCLSoftware collaborated with Viettel Group, a telecom and technology firm based in Vietnam, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the UPF Acceleration Solution. HCL, WEF's UpLink opens applications for Zero Water Waste Challenge

Indian firm HCL and UpLink, the open innovation platform of the World Economic Forum, have invited applications for the Zero Water Waste Challenge, which is part of the Aquapreneur Innovation Initiative. The challenge calls for innovative water usage approaches to improve freshwater conservation from supply to demand, moving towards zero water waste, according to a release. This is the second of five challenges from HCL and UpLink's Aquapreneur Innovation Initiative. The initiative aims to create innovation ecosystem for the global freshwater sector. The deadline to apply is October 2, 2023. Under this initiative, HCL committed USD 15 million until 2027 to support the water-focused entrepreneurs.
