Vaccine maker Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla has called for global harmonisation or regulatory standards and said that cooperation among multilateral organisations is a must for dealing with future outbreaks. Speaking during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023, he said he is optimistic about the cooperation. With 89 new cases, India records lowest daily Covid numbers since Mar 2020

India recorded 89 new coronavirus infections, the lowest since March 27, 2020, while the active cases declined to 2,035, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The Covid case tally stood at 4.46 crore (4,46,81,233). The death toll stands at 5,30,726, the data updated at 8 am stated. The daily positivity was recorded at 0.05 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.09 per cent. The active cases now comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.80 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 84 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. India has recorded 173 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases have declined to 2,670, according to Union health ministry data updated on Monday. The total tally of Covid cases has been recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,78,822) and the death toll stands at 5,30,707 with two fatalities -- one reconciled by Kerala and one reported by Uttarakhand -- in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has increased to 98.80 per cent, according to the ministry's website. Govt plans to increase number of Janaushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by Mar 2024

The government on Saturday said it plans to increase the number of generic drugs stores, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 10,000 by March 2024 in order to accelerate the drive to make quality medicines available at affordable prices to all. Around Rs 18,000 crore has been saved through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in last eight years and the government has deepened the reach of the scheme with more than 9,000 stores covering 743 out of 766 districts across the country, an official statement said. Medicines which are priced 50 per cent to 90 per cent less than that of branded versions are sold at the PMBJKs with the product basket comprising 1,759 medicines and 280 surgical devices covering all major therapeutic groups such as cardiovascular, anti-cancers, anti-diabetics, anti-infectives, anti-allergic, gastro-intestinal medicines and nutraceuticals, among others. Hold mock drills at health facilities: Govt to states as Covid cases rise

To ensure the readiness of the COVID-19 health facilities to meet the increase in clinical care needs due to any spurt in cases, the Union health ministry has asked the states and Union territories to hold mock drills at all health facilities on Tuesday. In view of a surge in the Covid trajectory in many countries, it is necessary that the requisite public health measures are put in place in all the states to meet any exigencies, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a letter to the states on Saturday. Over 20,000 people on Sunday visited the free mega health camp at the Kasi Sahu College campus in Jharkhand's Seraikela Kharswan district.
