PM pays tributes to actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor on 100th birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to celebrated actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor on his 100th birth anniversary, hailing him as "the eternal showman". He said on X, "Today, we mark the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary Raj Kapoor, a visionary filmmaker, actor and the eternal showman! His genius transcended generations, leaving an indelible mark on Indian and global cinema." The prime minister had recently met members of the Kapoor family, which has produced several successful actors, to commemorate his legacy. Born on this day in 1924 in what was then undivided India and is now part of Pakistan, Kapoor was the son of stalwart actor Prithviraj Kapoor and grew to become not only a successful actor but also one of the greatest filmmakers of the Hindi film cinema. His screen portrayal of a common man wedded to working-class values coupled with an eye for talent in various aspects of film-making, not least in music, created a popular cinema that won the hearts of .

Noted Hindi poet Hariram Dwivedi dies at 87, PM Modi expresses grief

Noted Hindi and Bhojpuri poet, lyricist and litterateur Pandit Hariram 'Hari Bhaiya' Dwivedi passed away after a prolonged illness, his family said on Tuesday. He was 87. According to his family members, Dwivedi -- who had been ailing for a long time, died on Monday afternoon at his residence in the Mahmoorganj area of this Uttar Pradesh district. His last rites will be performed at Manikarnika Ghat on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences at his death. Dwivedi's family members said the multiple award-winning poet had been unwell for several months. His health worsened late on Sunday and he succumbed the following day. If there is a song which best describes legendary singer Mukesh, it is his own track "Kisi ki muskurahaton pe ho nisaar," says his son Nitin Mukesh, remembering his music icon-father on his birth centenary. Born in Delhi on July 22, 1923 as Mukesh Chand Mathur, the artist was part of the famous triumvirate of singers alongside Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar, who ruled the Hindi cinema playback scene for decades. SRK's 'Pathaan' becomes first Hindi film to cross Rs 1,000 cr mark globally

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Pathaan" on Tuesday created history by becoming the first Hindi movie to cross Rs 1000 crore mark at the worldwide box office. According to Yash Raj Films (YRF), the Siddharth Anand directorial raised Rs 1.25 crore nett in India (Hindi - Rs 1.20 crore, dubbed versions - Rs 0.05 crore) on its fourth Monday. "The total worldwide gross is an incredible Rs 1000 crore (India gross: Rs 623 crore, overseas: Rs 377 crore)" the studio said in a press note. YRF said "Pathaan" has become the highest grossing Hindi film worldwide in the history of Hindi cinema. The stylish action thriller follows the titular spy (Shah Rukh) who comes out of exile to stop terrorist group Outfit X from launching a debilitating attack on India. SRK's 'Pathaan' raises Rs 542 crore gross worldwide in first weekend

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's spy thriller "Pathaan" has become the "highest opening weekend" grosser in the history of Hindi cinema with the earnings of Rs 542 crore in five days. According to Yash Raj Films (YRF), in the five-day extended weekend for Republic Day "Pathaan" registered Rs 60.75 crore nett in India (Hindi Rs 58.5 crore, all dubbed versions Rs 2.25 crore), taking the India gross to Rs 70 crore. The overseas gross on day five stands at Rs 42 crore, taking the total collection on its fourth day of release to Rs 112 crore gross. The Siddharth Anand-directed feature, which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, has recorded Rs 207.2 crore in the overseas territories alone. "At YRF, we are proud that 'Pathaan' is entertaining people across the globe, pulling people to the theatres and giving them an experience of a lifetime!"
