Home Ministry seeks report from Delhi Police on Kanjhawala incident

On the direction of Home Minister Amit Shah, the ministry has sought a detailed report from the Delhi Police on the gruesome death of a woman in outer Delhi's Kanjhawala, officials said on Monday as outrage mounted over the case. The 20-year-old woman was killed after her scooter was hit by a car and she was dragged for about 10-12 kilometres. Acting promptly, the Delhi Police constituted an inquiry committee, headed by Special Commissioner Shalini Singh, and asked her to submit a probe report as early as possible. As directed by the home minister, the MHA has asked the Delhi Police to submit a detailed report on the Kanjhawala incident, an official said. After receiving the report of the inquiry committee, the Delhi Police is expected to submit its report on the incident to the MHA, the official said. Home Ministry gives NOC for name change of 2 places in Uttar Pradesh

The Union Home Ministry has given its consent to change the names of two places in Uttar Pradesh following recommendations from the state government, officials said on Tuesday. The 'no-objection' certificates were issued by the ministry for changing the name of municipal council 'Mundera Baazar' in Gorakhpur district to 'Chauri-Chaura' and that of 'Telia Afghan' village in Deoria district to 'Telia Shukla', an official said. The home ministry considers proposals for name change according to the existing guidelines, in consultations with agencies concerned. It gives a 'no-objection' certificate to change the name of any place after taking consent from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts and the Survey of India, another official said. For changing the name of a village, town or a city, an executive order is needed. Renaming of a state requires an amendment of the Constitution with a simple majority in Parliament, the official added.

600k cyber crime complaints registered on govt portal since 2019: MoS Home

Six lakh complaints of cyber crime have been registered at the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System since its inception in 2019, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra said on Tuesday. Mishra said the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has been launched for immediate reporting of financial frauds and to stop siphoning off funds by fraudsters. The toll-free helpline number '1930' has been operationalised for assistance in lodging online cyber complaints. "Since the inception of Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, more than six lakh complaints have been registered till December 12, 2022, and in more than 1.11 lakh complaints, so far, financial amount of more than Rs 188 crore have been saved," he said in Lok Sabha during Question Hour. Centre approves common communication plan for ramping up coastal security

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved a common communication plan for coastal security that envisages integrating marine law enforcement agencies into a single network for better coordination and seamless exchange of mission-critical information. The plan will be able to integrate all coastal security agencies in a common communication network with a dedicated spectrum for the purpose, a senior Indian Navy official has said. Govt completes mother tongue survey of 576 languages across country

The Ministry of Home Affairs has successfully completed a mother tongue survey with field videography of 576 languages and dialects across the country. According to the annual report of the home ministry for 2021-22, it has been planned to set up a web archive at the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to preserve and analyse the original flavour of each indigenous mother tongue. For this purpose, proper editing in arranging the linguistic data by in-house linguists is under process, it said. The Mother Tongue Survey of India (MTSI) project is successfully completed with field videography of 576 mother tongues, the report said. The home ministry said the Linguistic Survey of India (LSI) is a regular research activity in the country since the 6th Five Year Plan. The Centre has cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF), a non-government organisation associated with the Gandhi family, for alleged violations of the law, officials said. The action came after investigations carried out by an inter-ministerial committee formed by the home ministry in 2020. IDBI Bank bidders need to seek MHA security clearance in bidding process

In a first, the government has made it mandatory for interested buyers of IDBI Bank to provide details for security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the first stage of the bidding process. So far, in all instances of CPSE privatisation, the government would seek details regarding security clearance of the bidders at the second stage of the bidding process. This meant that bidders who qualified in the first or the Expression of Interest (EoI) round, were required to seek security clearance from the government while placing their financial bids.
